RE: 2020 BMW M4 - here it (almost) is

I don't know what they're thinking with that grille. Truly awful. It's like they showed the concept 4 series and the response was so overwhelmingly negative yet they couldn't bring themselves to be seen bowing to the pressure of forums and twitter so just cracked on with it.

From what I gather their major market for this car is Asia. I saw a video (I think Carwow) on YouTube where Mat asked a load of Asians there whether they liked the grille, every single one of them liked it. It's almost as if BMW have done their research.Alfa must be rubbing their hands!
That said, I too think the grille looks utterly awful.
Frank Stephenson who designed the original x5 BMW sums it up quite nicely in his 4 series design appraisal .

Someone grafted the nose of a Z8 on the M4 in the above instagram post. It works so well it looks a complete no-brainer. Baffling why they did anything else, really.
I'd embed the post, but I've no idea how...

Not entirely sure it matters.
As said by Stephenson in the youtube link above.... BMW are at risk of throwing away their heritage and style.
Cover up the front end of this car on those insta shots, and there is no way on earth you'd know what you're looking at...BMW have fallen into a low spot, where they do what everyone else is doing and ignore all the successful design elements they've built up.
The one way out of that?... slap on something deeply controversial...= column inches and debate, job done.

"We don't like this any more than you do, honest."
Yet you display all the signs of being BMW marketing departments lapdog. Every time they send out some inane update, there you are publishing as ordered. Instead of supporting this BS marketing nonsense to get airtime, why not go the other way until they actually get what customers want rather than pushing their agenda out?
PS it is damned ugly so far.

There is an interesting video from Frank Stephenson (an actual car designer, so quite qualified in his views) where he critiques the design properly, which I found really helpful helpful in articulating what is so wrong with that design.
https://youtu.be/qSj1Nj2rTc8
He is absolutely right in what he says

I think now that an actual designer has provided input it is a slippery slope. More so when said designer has worked at BMW!
Frank's video for me is spot on. BMW is in danger of loosing everything that makes it a bmw now. The numberplate screws the historic factor into the weeds even more.
