The Lexus in the op is absolutely gopping, but the Tesla 3 is just very elegant and minimalistic.
I knew it wouldn't take long before someone used that word to describe it, Minimalist is not the same thing as underdesigned with little actual thought put in. The screen looks exactly like it was attached as an afterthought using a generic bracket from Halfords, and the plastics have a finish in them that shouts 'recycled household waste'.Honest minimalism is Dacia.

Let me try you with this one. Back in the day, Paolo Gucci approached Lynx to do a run of Eventers with the interior to his design. The plan was to do a run of twenty of them, but for legal reasons and internecine warfare in the family but one was made. The first photo is the dashboard with "exquisite" marquetry. The second is of the accessories to go with it, and the third the varios colour schemes available. Note the alligator skin seats for example. Give me your thoughts please

I think that 996 takes it. That's dreadful.
This 996 has been at a dealers for at least a year. I wonder why Unfortunately I think in general the interior of the 996 hasn’t aged well at all. I’d be quite interested in an RPM Technik CSR build 996 if they could completely rip out the inside and start again.

I'll concur, considering I sat looking at that exact dash layout for the best part of 5 years. The nav equipped versions were worse IMO because of the 'double-bubble' dashtop profile.
Also it did not help that much of it was covered in that dreadful rubberised paint that turned to goo (especially the door grabs) and the aluminium trims on the door cards were positioned exactly where the seatbelt buckle would collide with them when reeling back, leaving the interior of the door looking like a pock-marked mess.
Oh, and the silver trim on the gearknob would peel off from the front edge leaving a very sharp and scratch edge on the plastic.

I don't know if it'd fall under the worst interior ever but I've always been disappointed in the interior of the MK1 Focus RS. The normal focus interior was great for the time, yet simply adding some blue bits it made it look completely daft:
I've always felt the same and the blue bits seem to ruin the interior for me. bloomen said:
Lagonda for me by a long, long way. And everything else on it too.
I watched the Doug Demuro review of it and every single aspect of the ergonomics are absolutely excruciating. It's the type of arrangement you would've expected from a bunch of kids left with some parts to assemble. And they would've earned themselves a clip round the ear when the adults returned.
I completely agree. I started a thread a while ago entitled ‘just because you can...’ The Lagonda sums that up for me. They seemed to throw everything that was modern at the time into the design without really thinking of the complete package, or whether the technology even belonged in a car. I've had a combined 11 years(across 3 of them) sat in a E9x 3 series. It is a grim place to sit for sure...
Why would you subject yourself to 11 years of something that grim? Could always, you know, buy another car?I've always liked the way that a BMW drives, but they can't do interiors for toffee for me though.

That is a 997, not a 996. The colour is "Terracota", I think and way nicer in reality. I'd fit a black steering wheel tough....It's not selling because it is way to expensive for a Tiptronic (old school automatic) 997, even without knowing the mileage.

The talk of mind-expanding drugs got me thinking: let's look at this backwards.
We all on here (especially the young 'uns) look at older car interiors - like the Lotus Esprit shown above - and think "eeeeeew" or similar, because interiors these days lack any discernible character compared to those of that time: they're just too efficient. Times have changed, and we take so much for granted now. If you could show a 2020's interior to someone in, say, the 1970s, what would they think?
Ditto for comments like "keep fit windows in an S-Class!" etc: buyers weren't so fussed back then, but even trying to sell a supermini today minus PAS, electric windows and even AC would be unthinkable.

I absolutely love that, and it reminds me of when this design theme filtered down into French culture. I can remember visiting hotels in the early '80's where the furniture, fixtures and fittings mimicked this design (if not the colour-scheme).Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
