How would I determine a rough price for a dateless plate?

There a few I've spotted for sale, private sellers with the current physical plate pictured, rather than a company listing just the reg.

The initials don't have any specific relevance to me but they're good looking dateless plates and seem fairly priced, although it's hard to know if they are actually well-priced..
What format are we talking? 2x2 start around £6k ish, 3x1 start around £4k ish, this is obviously for random undesirable combos with X's Y's etc.
I would say though, that the unwritten rule for undesirable letters such "X" and "Y", wouldn't be as applicable nowadays. If you look at the prices for X and Y plates in recent auctions, you'd see they weren't significantly less than other letter combinations. Also names are origin based. A lot of Chinese names, for example would start with X. A lot of Asian names start with Y.
Yes I agree, the DVLA Auction prices don't really signify the whole market though, for some reason they seem to have gone absolutely nuts on every single number while a lot of the numbers already existing in the market have stayed at similar prices (Excluding the 1x1 and other desirable stuff), I was basing those guide starting prices from a number of traders who have those X and Y combos (and the NI stuff in the 3x1) starting at those prices

I have never seen a plate in this format before. Spotted on a Toyota pickup between Crowthorne and Wokingham.

151 ABL issued in October 1961 by Berkshire County Council and 151 CBL in August of 1962. The owner says he's had it for thirty odd years.

JM 76 on a 5 series Tourer by Falmer earlier today

(might have been 76 JM) Only clocked it as it's my birth year and very very very close to my initials
It's JM 76, issued by Westmoreland in 1931 or early 1932, and now residing on a Beemer. 76 JM was a DVLA auction sale in 2006, £7000 plus VAT etc (making it quite pricey at the time).

Lovely. 1 x 3 and 1 x 4 'forward' are incredibly rare. Even at the time 1 x 1 and 1 x 2 had a certain kudos and were transferred, and those lost were resucitated in the late 50s when this was allowed. Three and Four digit plates just died with the car.

True enough. Although would make a difference if the dealer advertising owned the plate or was owned by a client, in which case the client would decide on what final price he is willing to accept. I made an offer for a forward 3x2 with my initials for a plate owned by a client. I offered £750.00 less than what it was advertised for. The owner of plate was only willing to discount £500.00. Plate is still advertised.
Dealers have sales every so often, especially Black Friday and plates owned by themselves could be negotiated down to a reasonable price.
