Plate was removed from the Bentley years ago
That’s smashing but it’s still on it today, clearly not being used on the road though.
It does appear another plate was stuck on top, and removed sometime later, then simply parked up and left.

Ha, 1972, and this week too! I was 18 on June 25th , and my birthday present in my parents garage was my first car, a 1954 Austin A30, with my current registration number on it, PRT 68.
Coincidentally the plate was issued in Ipswich in 1954, my birth year.
My father was a police officer, and in 1971 was called out to attend a vehicle fire locally. I think it was a Hillman convertible. The car was burnt out, with only third party insurance, and the owner couldn't afford the tow charges to remove the vehicle, and so my Dad 'acquired' it if he wanted it.
A quick call to one of my fathers mates had the car picked up.
The local licensing office was next to the police station, and so another mate transferred the plate to my Dads car there and then for the £5 fee.
It stayed on there until just before my birthday, and then transferred to my birthday present.
On Saturday my initials and number will finally coincide with my age. Never thought that would happen!

I particularly like the astute comments from those interviewed, such as how they are really just big boys toys and how they don't really have any intrinsic value, only really being worth what someone else will pay for them.

Perhaps I am cynical, but I don't expect that sort of stuff in any modern news piece!

I'm not saying there were (are!) benefits to brown envelopes and friends in high places, but... biggrin
