79 F on a green MINI.

Have a feeling it possibly featured on here a few weeks ago, but I haven’t got the energy to click back through several pages to look for it smile
Yes, I spotted it at a garden centre near Nantwich then a few days later it was spotted by someone else in Shrewsbury.

Switched to my bike recently, works well I think.

Are these expensive compared to similar styles?
I'd quite like one like that.
Like this.... Sold for £10200 + FEES & VAT in April 06...
I’ve got a photo of that!

Short plates with zero significance or meaning are really boring yet litter this thread. Only appealing from what I can see because "it's worth a lot".

Hi there. I'm the OP of this thread, originally started over 17 years ago!

The thread was designed to highlight whimsical plates & those that spelled out something (irrespective of spacing!). Over the years it has drifted into plates that fall out of the ordinary.

I'm happy to see both really, but as you say the stars of the show are those that spell out something.

Personally I find the geek/history aspect re: original issue plates having survived being the more interesting aspect.

Big numbers prices are an amusing/surprising side aspect.

And on that note, a couple I spotted recently:

D 73 on a newer Range Rover - was a short distance behind what appeared to be two police outriders further ahead in traffic and there were a lot of other grey/black expensive 4x4 things around at the same time, so I wondered if they were someone VIP.

7272 ME on a Cayman IIRC
Thanks for the replies, guys. DIdn't know whether I was making a snotty remark or not, I enjoy this thread but cool to see some people share the same sentiment regarding random short regs. Yeah, a lot of them are worth big money but most people don't know the significance besides that.

Respect to the guy who makes a weekly list of plates he's seen, it's really interesting.

Man, I was considering picking up JJ22 JJJ a few months back but was £999 or £1299 which I just couldn't afford outright, and never spent so much on a single plate, but would have been cool for multiple reasons. My name is James, number 22 has followed me around since the Manchester Arena which I was at a few years back in 2017, and the date was 22nd May, and there's 5 Js. Was trying to pick up OO71 SPY (007 I SPY) or (007 (vertical line) SPY) back when the 71 plates came out, but the DVLA website was so slow and I didn't know the method of having direct links to buy plates rather than going through the search function, and I think someone literally beat me to it by 20 seconds or less.

Got to catch up on the last week or so of posts here, been busy with the Car Buying section as I'm looking for my second car after not driving for three years. I have a few number plates that I've bought over the last few years / had as birthday presents which I hope to one day put on the right car, but might actually run a stock reg for a bit while I'm getting used to my next car.

From an early age, number plates have always interested me, and it's cool to see people who share the same interest.

Interesting one that can be read two ways, M25 JAM literally, or MRS JAM. I have a JAM plate myself, after seeing some similar plate ideas and there's someone on social media who had a variety of JAM plates as their name is Jamie I believe, some I wish I had myself but I would guess they're never parting with them biggrin GT04 JAM was available for a while, and then someone bought it and put it on a Cayman GT4. Snooze, you lose sometimes frown

A lot of the plates I own are sort of car specific so they have to fit on the right thing, but might have to keep an eye on the dateless section. FEZ 220 was there which would've been nice for a mapped Fiesta perhaps lol, or just a nod to the ST220. Maybe something less specific though. Also some pretty interesting combinations to be had perhaps with the various prefix combinations that keep coming out.

Having the same name I also keep a look out for ‘James’ related plates. Sounds like this plate would have suited you that sold a few months back….

I’ve always been intrigued in the variation in prices some of the similar combinations have sold for as well. The main one being the huge difference between J24 and J42….
