I found TYE 1A on the DVLA auction this time, and emailed my friend, whose surname is Tye. He bought it for £960 + the tax and fees etc.
To him, that's a great plate, even if a bit meaningless to the rest of the world. Pleased with that, and he's buying me dinner to say thanks for the spot
He got a bargain there!! Make sure he looks after you, I reckon a Dom Pérignon 1995/96 would be only fair.To him, that's a great plate, even if a bit meaningless to the rest of the world. Pleased with that, and he's buying me dinner to say thanks for the spot

Brilliant plate... "101 OI" UK registered,no sure of it's origin probably Ireland.?Belfast circa 1958
That's the sort of plate for which I'd be half tempted to leave one of those dodgy notes under the wiper 'just in case you ever want to sell it'

Apparently 0 relates to the government, so yes it’s very rare.
They basically invented it to have the “top” plate and are now selling it due to money problems! It is now part of their heritage and not far removed from selling the buildings they work in. One such past plate (not a “0”) was going to auction but got sold cheap to the official authorising the sale IIRC!!!Hatson said:
