RE: Jaguar XK 3.8-litre back in production
Discussion
Given that this is a pretty low stress iron block engine that'll do at least 100,000 miles between re-bores / re-linering, why would you spend £15k on a block just to "save wear on one you already have"? I suspect not many owners are racking up 100,000 mile a year photocopier salesman type mileages in these classics are they??
The 3.8 was modified to a 4.2 in its original lifetime to produce extra needed torque. So to produce the backward step of a 3.8 is literally taking a slice of the huge price e types are now fetching. Which I would image would hike those car priced even further. It’s a lot of money for just a new block. As an engine manufacturer it doesn’t take much to produce a few holding jigs to machine, faces, bores and journals on manually operated machines. More of an apprentice toolmaker task tbh

That's what's clever because some products appeal just because of their cost, the higher the better. Often linked to silent boasting insofar as that many owners will know that others will be aware of the cost & therefore have no reason to mention the subject themselves. This applies to some parts of the luxury goods market where products are sold because they are expensive & often with some sort of trite degree of exclusivity.
Plenty of suckers in the classic car world.

Save all the hassle and go direct to C & G who are building them .
Or buy one of their 4.7ltr 6 pot engines .
I suppose some with deep pockets will order them .
Yes but they wont be original. If C&G are casting blocks and putting jaguar engine numbrs on them, is it fraud?Or buy one of their 4.7ltr 6 pot engines .

These are made by Jaguar, so totally original. Its just they left the factory after the others...

All of the engines fitted to Jaguar's Lightweight E, XKSS and D-Type continuations were built by C&G, so I wouldn't be surprised if these were actually made by them too, just being sold by Jaguar as their own. These are made by Jaguar, so totally original.
