Great cars.

Personally, I prefer the looks of the earlier models with the 18" Avus wheels.

To think you could pick up 1997/1998 models for around £1500 not that many years ago!

Lovely car but ambitious pricing (as is all 4Star stuff), they need the 20" wheels, and as mentioned above the mirrors are solid aluminium. Mine is also dechromed from factory.

definitely a Ronin mobile, and definitely desirable smile

I love these cars. They have an under-stated, adult elegance about them; same as a turn of the century 7 series. The D3 A8 looks well; but subsequent models have lacked the same presence. The current approach of many manufacturers, not just Audi, is to give us large grilles instead of proper lines. Never mind the S8 though; I'd be well happy with a 4.2. And I daydream occasionally about a 12 cylinder ...

I look at cars like this and the E39 5 Series and they just look so right to me. Some of the last and best saloon designs before car designers began putting overly fussy curves and creases into everything.

Or maybe I'm just turning into a ludite...
What you said - 100% agree.

Ex-Final Edition owner here - as has been highlighted, this definitely is one. The amount of dead cow varied slightly by colour combination, but the colour coordinated steering wheel and gear selector is an absolute giveaway. All FEs were a fixed spec from the factory with bi-xenon headlights, mobile phone prep (hence the boot antenna), electric rear blind and manual rears, sat-nav (old CD based system) and analogue TV.

You can upgrade to more modern kit - mine had the later DVD-based RNS-E nav and digital TV, with bluetooth phone prep added. Also a Milltek exhaust which improved the sound from the engine no end smile

To answer a question further up, rear leg room is as epic as you'd expect - no shortness of space for adult passengers, and the only car I've ever owned that would comfortably seat 5 actual adults for a reasonable length trip.

The big question regarding this car is what non-routine maintenance has been done over the years - they do benefit from a bit of regular fettling to stay on top of any issues ref water getting into the electronics, gearbox servicing (NOT a service item according to Audi, but absolutely essential for long life) and cambelt every 5-8ish years or so, irrespective of mileage (about £1k to do properly at a specialist as the parts aren't cheap).

At this mileage if the gearbox has never been serviced it should be salvageable with a proper oil and filter change. I used to get the gearbox oil changed every few years as it's relatively cheap to do.

Great cars - I sold mine privately (it had purple leather and Avus silver paint) for about half the price of this one, with not many more miles on it. Mine wasn't as minty as this looks, however. I'd say £10-12k is about right for this one if it's not got some expensive bills due.

Saw the white background, doubles the price, second only to plonking it in a puddle for photos.

Its lovely, but if you pay that much for it, may be in for a nasty surprise if you decide to move it on, might get half back.

Looks nice and clean if a bit pricey - 10-12k would be more realistic.
Presume the movie reference is Ronin?

What about the real original bad boy, rarer though. The Type 4c, that was Audi’s first weapon with a well tested v8, partook in loads of DTM against the mercs 190 corsworth (Evo’s) and the e30 m3. Made between 1988-1993

Just to update this thread - I bought this car two years ago from the dealer.

I paid £11k plus had the dealer refurbish the wheels, and a gearbox service and cambelt change. Two years on, it’s had its faults, but I can’t see myself selling this.

This is my second D2 S8 - my last one, in aqua blue, I sold in around 2012 and always regretted it.

Hello mate,

Yes, it’s been a while! One long-winded divorce, one heart attack and several house moves kept me busy!

Oh, and I forgot my login details hehe

How’s you and your lovely S8?

It was advertised for £16K, but the dealer accepted £11K ? Then did you have to pay for the wheel refurbish, gearbox service and cambelt on top? Seems like they realised it was well overpriced at the time. Well done anyway.

No, they act as a selling agent for the owner. Do the write up, fancy photos etc and take a commission on the sale.

As soon as I saw the car up for sale, I just felt it was for me, but my situation at the time didn’t allow for it.

Anyway, much time passes and it’s still up for sale, but at a reduced price. Thinking about it, it was during lockdown two, so 2.5 years ago.

I didn’t pay for the refurb or gearbox service - it was a condition of my offer. The original wheel finish was ball polished on the wheels, but a very expensive refurb that the owner wouldn’t stretch to - So I settled on diamond cut.
