I like the Tiguan, one of the better small SUVs. Im glad they've made this version and should be popular for those who want a quickish SUV, but i'm guessing this will be £38-40k minimum after discounts based on the Ateca Cupra prices. That takes it very close to more premium 6 cylinder estates like the m340i and C43. Big discounts on the x3 m40i as well.

It looks great.

Has anyone mentioned that it'll get stolen off your driveway by thugs with knives yet?

I think we've had the usual finance objections / bitterness.

4 exhaust consternation - yes.

EA888 usage observation / moan - yes.
Haha, yes. The EA888 is a very impressive engine, but it's not especially refined. Suits the Golf very well but I'm unsure it works in larger vehicles. Had an R, twas brilliant: 300bhp, and 30mpg (have to use premium) but not especially pleasant on longer runs. Now have an S4, 3ltr V6t, 350bhp, 35mpg and runs on regular unleaded. Far nicer on longer runs and just as happy to play when required. Of course it will cost more to build and VAG have to keep clean air between their brands, but think thier instant flogging of the EA888 has more to do with sweating their intellectual property while they can before we're all forced to go electric.

Agreed. I'd rather have the V6T any day of the week.

I'm always a little bit weary of these high(ish) powered SUVs however but I guess it takes a real c*ckjockey to do something like this:

And a monumentally large tw@t to do this:

These will be bought by a lot of people who wouldn't otherwise buy any sort of "fun" car which means they're a great thing for our stock of interesting used cars. I'm expecting late 10s and early 20s performance crossovers to be the standard route into cheap fast stuff in 2035.

The Tiguan, IMO is one of the nicest designs of any vehicle currently on the road. Lots of R-line diesels about and always think they look great.
I know looks are subjective, but "nicest designs of any vehicle currently on the road"! banghead

Are you related to Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles?

In the modern world I don't think they will be bought by anyone! laugh

Leased or PCPd maybe, although I don't see how they can be thought of as a "fun" car - they are just another lardy top-heavy 4 pot VAG product with some extra boost added to the mix in a largely unsuccessful effort to overcome the weight!

Nope, just have my own opinion on what I like.
I suppose I could narrow it down to cars I see on a daily basis.

It's nice. I like it. I "own" an RS3 saloon and a new diesel Tiguan R-Line spec already. Probably wouldn't buy one as it would make one of our other cars a bit redundant. But, they'll sell millions of them.

The Tiguan has been our go-to car since we bought it. The RS3 has been used twice since lockdown. Neither of us expected to like it as much as we do.

I had a Tiguan as a courtesy car back in November and it was a lovely car but felt very cheap inside certainly didn’t warrant the 38k price that it was

>> 'most successful' Volkswagen in the world<<

lol, really. I think someone at VW has been smoking too much

I do not like the new 'R' logo The previous 'R' logo evolved nicely from that of the Golf R32, the one, seems wishy washy.

You missed a bit of the quote, it's quite important though I reckon.

I didn't know that, VW's have never really interested in me. Just thought it looks totally bizarre. Even on a V8 engine cars it usually looks a bit of over the top.
Sometimes functional though on a V-configuration. Mine uses the inner two for quieter mode, outer two for noisier. wink

How we used to mock Family Dad for buying a Zafira Turbo to have a little fun whilst still adhering to Spousal Purchasing Orders.

Now buying a family bus with a silly engine is cool...

Ah, my mistake. This one has the 'correct' German badge.

I had a MK1 Tiguan 170DTI R manual, and it was a great car.

Coped with the heavy snow in 2010-2011 without any problems. Drove through flooded roads most cars couldn't, and handled pretty well for a higher car. I enjoyed 3 years motoring.

I've like the look of the MK2 since it came out, as was hopeing VW would give it 300bhp+. After waiting years to see if it arrived, and VW suggesting it'll never arrive, eben though they gave the world the T-Roc R, I went out and bought a X3 M40i instead.

If they'd introduced this in January, I'd have preferred the Tiguan. But they are over priced. A 230bhp TFSI version was coming out at £40k+

And I doubt VW would give me nearly 30% discount BWM did. Still though, for size / power / speed / utility of the Tiguan. It is a compelling package. I think it looks great in R form.

Errr no it doesn't look great. And the other points are all valid.

Very nice indeed, happy wife, happy life.

Great pocket rocket, definitely on my radar as a dual use shopping car (his/hers).

The thing thing is ,that plenty of people Worldwide seem to be buying Tiguans and they all seem to like them . I suppose their love of these cars however ,must be misplaced ? THEIR opinions are all wrong and the large number of critics on this site are all right ,although they've never owned one. ?
