"self-denial" is an act of sacrifice or selflessness.

"denial" or "living in denial" would seem to be the meaning that we want in that PH definition.

Buffed. - Paintwork was attacked by ex wife / husband. Ripped - ditto seats*. Recent service ( girlfriend / boyfriend) reason for wife / husband now ex. Old banger - The said Girlfriend / boyfriend . Outrageous performance - see old banger.
