911 Cabriolet's never look nice. I seriously don't know why Porsche make them?
Out of the 2 cars there, I'd go for the McLaren. It looks better.
For me, I think the Turbo would be better as a Targa rather than a Cabriolet. Now I'd probably take that over the McLaren
I'd still take a hard top 911 Turbo S over pretty much anything else though.
I reckon they probably sell them because they make money from them. Out of the 2 cars there, I'd go for the McLaren. It looks better.

I like them....

Porker all day long. The McLaren can't hold a candle to it in either looks or build quality.
100k miles along the Porsche will still be tightly screwed together and feel it, the Mclaren will be a rattly bag of bolts that's if it lived that long..
When has any 911 looked better than a 600LT, it's just another 911..and all 911's look awful as convertables, always have. Also, it's a favorite non-owner thing to say that the Mclaren is a 'bag of bolts', but it is a thoroughly engineered car, flawed in it's dealer network and QC, but all very fixable and meaning a memorable car, unlike yet another 911, is actually affordable. 100k miles along the Porsche will still be tightly screwed together and feel it, the Mclaren will be a rattly bag of bolts that's if it lived that long..
And of course, Porsche have never had an issue with any build quality over recent years

The McLaren can't hold a candle to it in looks? You've seen this photo, right? 100k miles along the Porsche will still be tightly screwed together and feel it, the Mclaren will be a rattly bag of bolts that's if it lived that long..
Thing is, we don't know if McLarens will last thatong or not. Very few are daily drivers I think so of course mileage will be lower.
Interesting you don't say the McLaren can't hold a candle to the Porsche when it comes to driving feel and enjoyment, which it seems to be the superior car.

The uprising in curtain twitching types is quite disturbing. Earlier today I stumbled upon a man looking at my Audi, talking to himself and reaching for his smartphone.
Suffice to say, when I reach the lofty heights of a Corvette and a poor mans Porsche like yours, I will be really pleased.
I’m a massive lover of all things 911. And had the gen 2 991 turbo A coupe. A fantastic car. Porsche do this tour de force like nobody else.
But...
I bought a new 600lt spider in January and I am totally in love. Head over heels in love. It has been tight, no rattles or squeaks. It has never broken down. It is absolutely fan-bloody-tastic.
Personally I would never buy a 992 turbo S cab over a 600lt spider unless I was considering it as an only car. The McL is twice as special and such an event to drive. I just got my boyhood dream 911, a 993 GT2. It is epic in every way. I was out in it yesterday. But today, despite this, I chose to take the McL. There is so much horse st spoken about reliability etc by people who would never buy one anyway. Just epic.

Just a reminder the MOT on A1VDY 2002 Isuzu Trooper expired on 2 July 2020 - HTH 100k miles along the Porsche will still be tightly screwed together and feel it, the Mclaren will be a rattly bag of bolts that's if it lived that long..

They re not rivals so why pit them against each other? Totally different kinds of car. Waste of an article.
2 great cars btw. No losers here, just preferences; and I like that the article explores that.As for the cars I LOVE convertibles & the sense of freedom they give but saddened that 911's have such lumpy arses. The Targa version is more elegant with only a modest loss of the al fresco feel. As for that other pared down supercar thing - it does nothing for me at all just a posh Elise.
Both too bulky for most roads. The photographic location near Goodwood is lovely but that road quite narrow so God help you when you meet the usual local rich bint in a well dirtied Range Rover coming the other way.

I think that McLaren looks ace. If I had the folding I would definitely consider it.
The Porsche's performance is clearly epic but it is not a good looking car. This from someone who had a fat-arsed 996 C4S cab and liked it.
McLaren have to manage their cars residuals better as it is killing the desirability for new owners. Just talking to my stepfather this evening, who is a serial buyer is this segment and he said he wouldn't have another McLaren because of the bath he's taking on his 570s. Plus his 488 is more comfortable and spacious and less likely to ground out on bumpy roads.
For my, much more modest budget, I'm still considering a McLaren maybe in reach in a year or two if the specialist support continues to develop making it a viable proposition outside the official dealer network.

Both fantastic cars, but when there is £35k difference in base price and over £70k difference as tested - is it really a fair comparison? If had the moolah for this spec of McLaren, I think I'd take the Porker for the weekends and sunny days instead, and then a year old E63 Estate for the rest of the time.
And there’s your answer - 70k and it’s not like the Porsche is rubbish!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
