My theory is it's money laundering.

As others have said we only hear about those he wins. No matter how many tickets he buys, he's going to lose money. So why would you do it? If it's not hacking (and there's lots of different compos, so less likely), my guess would be money laundering with the losses being the % cost to do that.

I'm guessing the compos don't do any AML checks on the ticket purchases?

Just a theory mind.
Do you realise just how awful the odds are on these prizes?

It'd be a horrific way to launder money you'd lose an absolute fortune.

You also can't pay for the tickets in cash so the money would need to be in the banking system to begin with.

I think its just an idiot blowing a load of money who's this time probably ahead because of the 1-2 very large wins.

It's just a theory, but yes I realise the odds are low.

I'm not saying he's very smart either.

I'm not sure we'll ever know, which is a shame.

All of the sites publish entry lists after the draw has taken place, if someone had lots of time on their hands they could go and download those lists and see how many times he appears on lists for prizes he hasn't won

I think he'll turn up very very often. He probably needs more attention from gamblers anonymous than the flying squad.

It won't be money laundering. If you have the sums we have here and they are being routed via a single individual, as we have here, it wouldn't work to use the mechanism of an online raffle.

Casino laundering is where physical cash is converted to chips without being reported for AML, washed through a very low odds game such as a rigged private poker table and then back out as legitimate gambling winnings. Lots of checksnin place to prevent and catch this though so it's no longer used by anyone other than old school minicab drivers who drop in to their local casino at closing for a sandwich and to wash the night's cash fares.

For laundering lots of street cash from individuals the beneficial recipients still tend to use the shops at the bottom end of a high street. The popular one these days is the vape store. They take the cash over the counter from the punters and fudge the accounts to show a physical transaction. Someone based out in Dubai who used to sell minibonds in the UK has just bought a chain of 60 arse end vape stores. They are very popular businesses. Dutch coffee shops used to be very popular for this reason.

There are numerous ways to launder street cash from multiple individuals using modern payment systems meaning physical shops are less and less relevant though.

For larger sums from a single individual many of the traditional paths have been closed right down. The most obvious one being the forcing of estate agents to carry out full AML and KYC on client funds but the most prevalent solution remains the fictitious invoicing and purchase of fictitious goods or services.

I have a whirl on dream car giveaways every now and again. Odds are rubbish but it seems legit and you never know. For the price of a pint that I can’t buy at the minute, I’m happy with it.

And that's the positive and good side of raffles. You're actually buying fun for a small amount. £5-£10 for a ticket that gives you the pleasure of that silly Hope is, assuming basic economic factors, a great purchase and a positive thing.

Sadly, like all gambling it attracts a predictable, pretty much definable number of consumers who make excessive bets. And with raffles it is a much higher number because it is not a regulated activity so has none of the industry safeguards in place that force the bookie to be responsible for those activities.

Happy to give great feedback on Dream Car Giveaways - I won a Porsche 964 off them a few weeks back and they were spot on - the car was exactly as described, the comms from the guys were great, and it was delivered to my door in 5 days. Not a bad return from five £10 tickets.

Dream Car Giveaways are legit
I won one of the money draws a month ago and I had the money in my account in less than 24hrs and they were nice as well
It is a raffle(gambling ) but you need to be strict with yourself
I am in lucky to own two nice cars already so I only buy tickets on few cars now but I go for money and watches draws

I don’t think anyone’s questions the legitimacy of the companies offering the competitions.

I always have a smile when someone wins the nice cars they offer, love listening to the phone calls they make to the winners.

Given the title, I think that's slightly erroneous. wink

The reality is that the gaming industry has to spend billions globally to protect itself from the legion of bent punters constantly trying to steal money yet the first reaction of so many is that it must be the company that's bent, not the punters. biggrin

Donkey, genuine question as you seem to have some knowledge in the industry.

Does Sweden offer something niche to online gambling industry / technology field? Just curious... whistle

That does seem rather suspicious, but I'd be on the side of it just being pure luck. No one being this bent would make it so obvious would they?

He's probably just poured a lot of money into it and got very lucky.

No idea. I only stumbled across it on Reddit and then remembered this thread. Nothing to do with me.

Looks mighty suspicious though even though its most likely nothing to do with BOTB. Everyone knows they’re legit even some guys on here have won I’m sure.

I only enter Dreamcar Giveaways occasionally, but they do the numbers live with google generator and you can see them doing it. I know they aren't in them photos but I don't get how you would set it up if you wanted to. I presume the other places do the draw in a similar way.

I don't know if its because I've just seen this, but the conversation they have about his business just seems so insincere. Hes asking him questions he knows the answers to. confused
