RE: 2020 Ford Bronco is 'Built Wild'
Discussion
The following addresses a task that has become perhaps a bit notorious in the pages of PH:
"One of the coolest interior features of Bronco is something that I had wished would show up in the Land Rover Defender"

This on top of the pathetic Ranger Raptor... Ford has lost the plot!
If you cared to read the article or people's comments here properly, then you probably wouldn't find it funny at all. This on top of the pathetic Ranger Raptor... Ford has lost the plot!
There're two versions of Broncos. One is the proper body on frame with a solid rear axle, three diff locks, disconnectable anti-roll bar, 35 inch MT tyres, removable doors and roof panels... This hardcore version comes with either a 2.3L four-cylinder petrol turbo which produces more torque than the 2.0L four-pot in the new Defender, or a 2.7L six-cylinder petrol turbo that produces 542 Nm of torque. Do you think those figures are funny?
Now, the second version is Bronco Sport which is a rebodied Ford Kuga (it has a 1.5L engine for ages in the UK market and no one seems to find it funny). So, it's basically a compact family crossover wearing a more serious off road name. Its relationship to the proper Bronco is similar to the relationship between the real Discovery and Discovery Sport which comes with a 1.5L btw. Do you also find both Kuga and Dico Sport laughable?

Cheers to gt40steve and loveice for explaining things properly, if only the article had done that.
I think maybe the Sport could have looked a bit more Tonka toy, I don't mind that it's on a different platform; I'd never use it off-road.
The Sport isn't my sort of thing. But when I take a step back and look at it in isolation (I think it's bigger brother over shadows it here). It probably isn't a bad vehicle tbh.I think maybe the Sport could have looked a bit more Tonka toy, I don't mind that it's on a different platform; I'd never use it off-road.
It is Ford's answer to the Freelander (which is now badged and sold as a Discovery Sport) or Jeeps Renegade. They can be a lot more capable than they first appear and do, for all intensive purposes drive far more car like on the road. Certainly not a bad vehicle at all and probably way more off road ability than most people would need.
But yeah, they aren't a 4x4 in the traditional sense of the word.

If you are interested in the big Bronco, here's a good article to read: https://www.autoblog.com/2020/07/13/2021-ford-bron...I think maybe the Sport could have looked a bit more Tonka toy, I don't mind that it's on a different platform; I'd never use it off-road.

How disappointing is the new Defender now? This is an example of how Land Rover should have captured the Defender essence...
It’s blue collar v white collar brand perceptions. Just like Ford are unable to viably sell a high end white collar product, JLR are unable to do the reverse. For us it means we get the two extremes because of it weren’t the case then we’d still end up with two vehicles but they would be identical amorphous blobs.
It’s not likely that either the Ford or Jeep sales will overlap that significantly with the Defender. They are targeting two quite different consumer segments.
It’s the Grenadier that is likely to be impacted even more by a product like this if it comes to the UK. New products from the Ford and JLR brands rarely overlap on the driveway.

Agreed thanks for the extra insight.I think maybe the Sport could have looked a bit more Tonka toy, I don't mind that it's on a different platform; I'd never use it off-road.
Personally I think the big one looks awesome, my BIL's Rubicon is currently on 35s and whilst horrendously inefficient is "cool" and a lot of fun off road. Suspect these will be the same. Plus you can indulge in mini monster truck fantasies while stuck in traffic
Sport, no thanks

Ironic given the last of the Defenders were powered by a Ford Transit engine then. If only those white collar consumers knew, the horror!
Indeed. Best not tell Aston owners that their engines are all built by Ford in Germany up until they got the new German engines!!!And those other German engines in all the other Land Rover vehicles! The horror!
2 door looks great, can see its appeal- if you live by the coast or in the sticks it would be great in good weather. Like a big comfy Quad bike, or a full size Tonka. It even makes me want one and perhaps an off road/off grid caravan to tow, im such a child!
I like the simplicity of the design, makes the Defender look a little overdone.

The smaller C-Segment family size crossover isn't for people in Malibu or people who dress like Barbie only. It's one of the most popular type of vehicle in most cities around the world including the very country we live in. Therefore, this type of vehicle with 1.5L turbo petrol isn't laughable.
Yes, I'm sure there's a snorkel in its long list of accessories. But, again it isn't only designed for homosexuals, heterosexual and bisexual people can also buy and own this type of vehicle too. Basically, if you haven't noticed, people of any type can go into a dealership purchase any car they can afford. So, again not funny!

My aren't we very serious today. Popular city car? What like the jeep wrangler? As for the Bronco proper I was thinking cowboy; outside of rural America best in class rock crawling is about as relevant as said gun rack but thank you for the woke guide to car buying !
