Wouldn’t mind but I drive an old van 99% of the time and only bring my nice cars out on nice days for a quick go. I felt like saying to him - “presume it’ll be ok on Monday when I’m driving my van?”
It’s upset me a bit, bet it would be even worse with expensive private plates. Tempted to sell them.

In those circumstances, I don’t think a plate matters all that much. Some gobby scallywag in the passenger seat of a Corsa will be a gobby scallywag regardless, an interesting experiment would be stick the most valuable plate you have on your old van. There’s an expectation in society that expensive plates must be adorned upon expensive cars, whereas I prefer to put the more valuable plates on the less valuable cars. That way, people can’t claim you’re showing off; you’re in some old shed, but people who appreciate good plates will appreciate the plate, people who don’t appreciate plates likely won’t notice as they’ll see a shed and instantly loose interest and look elsewhere.
But going back to your recent experiences, I would hope it’s water off a duck’s back; the primary reason to own these cars is for your own enjoyment, if strangers feel the need to shout abuse then it shows more about them than it does about you. Ignore and rest easy knowing that you don’t have to be carted around in the passenger seat of a Corsa.

This is my toy which originally cost me £1300 back in 2014. I get huge enjoyment from it and others seem to have a universally positive response to it. I have wanted a 911 for as long as I can remember, but I know it will provide a different ownership experience in that respect.
Owning this has made me realise that money does not necessarily equal enjoyment and for me that has been a valuable and ultimately money saving realisation :-)
On the subject of plates, I wanted something short and cheap, this was £400 and hides the fact it shouldn't be on black/silver plates to all but those who know a bit about cars. I have just registered it for historic status as he turned 40 in November.

It’s just jealousy, mixed with being a bit of a thicko. These types of people take great exception to others enjoying different things to them. Their insecurities are triggered and they let their guard down, usually one saying they are blissfully happy with their lot….until they see someone who has something that they would dearly love, but couldn’t be bothered to make the necessary sacrifices in life

The black/silver plates definitely suit the car much better than legal ones, but depending on how much and where you drive the car it will only be a question of time before you get pulled over by Police and forced to change them. Naff, you get a multiplier for each of the following.
1)They are 4D plates
2)They clearly have some miss spacing or the characters have been modified with a screw to spell something else

My cousin got a bin load of manky food poured into the passenger seat of his Triumph Stag when he left it outside a shop with the roof down to pop in for some chewing gum
I have a 3x3 which is Y90 xxx (xxx being my initials). Y90 referring to the fact i was born in the Year 1990.
It was cheap enough and unique to me so that's all that matters and I can put it on any car as it's not make or model specific.
It also doesn't require any silly spacing, screws, etc. and can be displayed legally in a nice 3x3 format.
And no, I wouldn't put my full name in small letters at the bottom of the plate to explain it to everyone, nor would I display in on a 4D plate

Even fairly rubbish plates with my initials are well into 5 figures and I would not pay that sort of price for a plate.
Not only do I think it a waste of money, I also don't trust the government not to change the rules when they think the market is saturated. For example by offering any un-issued plate you like for a fee.
