That is something of a revelation - I've been peeved at Costco since they stopped offering 99RON a couple of years ago and switched to 97 - There was a thread about it somewhere.

If they're selling 99 That would be very handy, but I'd have expected them to advertise it!

Out of interest, where is your delivery? - My local Costco is Thurrock / Lakeside.
I am based in Scotland so cover the Glasgow and Edinburgh Costco, and all over Scotland for Esso, Sainsburys etc

I was actually talking to one of the staff when I was delivering a month or so ago, they were unaware it was 99Ron too - but 100% on our paperwork and Bill of Lading from the terminal it states SU50-99RON, where Esso used to state Esso Super 97 but now shows as Esso Super 99.

I’m sure Sainsburys actually states 98Ron on their pumps, but again it’s SU50-99RON we load and deliver.

Why don't they say it's 99 then?
You’d need to ask them, I only put the fuel in the ground wink

Same fuel to Co-op, Costco and Sainsburys (no further additives added at the terminal) - Esso fuel is additised as it’s loaded onto the tanker (at the terminal side - it’s a bit like telling a computer what customer we are loading for, quantities and grade).

Costco put their own additive in when we are delivering it (it’s a control panel, their staff input the amount going into a tank and it calculates the additive and injects it as the fuel flows into the tank).
Interesting thank you

Hows everybody getting on with it? my 2x previous performance cars were mapped for 98+ so I used V-Power (one of the cars had a running issue on Momentum99).

I now have a new car which is mapped but think its safe for 95, going to try running on Momentum 99 again but might give Esso 99 a run as well.

Although it looks to be £1.45 here compared to V-Power £1.35

I've been using Esso now since October or so when I posted on the last page. Unfortunately I haven't had any long runs to see whether there has been an improvement in range at motorway speeds.

V-Power is £1.45 near me (North West). I'm sure it's jumped up a lot recently.

Esso 99 Ron round my way is prohibitively expensive at £1.49.9, Tesco Momentum and even Shell are much cheaper, also Morrisons have started doing a 97 Ron which the cars seem to run OK on

It's always awkward to find out how much superunleaded costs until you walk up to the pump. It's not on the main pricing board and the prices are not linked to standard unleaded prices.

It used to be 6p premium at Tescos and 7p premium with the main big names. But nowadays the price difference is more like 16p-18 premium.

Used Esso 99+ now for a bit as the garage is just up the road, previously in my mapped mini using v power, I used to get a fair bit of black over fueled discharge when hard acceleration was used, now on the Esso supreme, I don't.
Car does feel to run better, no hard scientific facts, but that's my experience.

V-Power has gone up from £1.39 in Jan to £1.49 recently. There is an Esso garage on the opposite side but I thought the new 99RON wasn’t available in NW England? I’m in south Manchester.

Annoyingly my local Tesco is closing its petrol station for 4 months so left with Esso and Shell.

Is it a given that all esso garages have this? There is one near me and i'm sure it only has regular and diesel, but I haven't been there in maybe 4-5 years.

Also, is it unique to esso or are they "sharing" with someone else, like how tesco momentum used to be the same as BP ultimate (not anymore afaik)

As far as I'm concerned - Esso's new Supreme+ 99 unleaded is the best pump fuel available in the UK.

As I understand it, it's the ONLY UK pump fuel that contains NO ETHANOL. If you check their web site, it states that the pumps show the 'E5' label due to legislation - but the fuel doesn't actually contain ethanol.

I'm running a Swift Sport turbo at the moment. This car has an adaptive ECU straight out of the factory. So it will adjust ignition timing to allow better performance if the fuel allows greater knock resistance.

Previously, I've used V-Power and Tesco Momentum 99 in the car. I tried V-Power for about 3 weeks in the car. There was a noticeable drop in performance compared to using TM99. The moment, I started using TM99 again - I could tell that the car had more go and was that bit feistier.

But, nothing could prepare me for when I started using Esso's new brew.

The Swift Sport absolutely loves this juice. Within minutes of filling the car up with this - the car was noticeably quicker - considerably so. To be honest, it feels like the car has been tuned - and yet all that's changed is the fuel. It feels like it could have 10 HP more or 20 to 30 Nm more torque. The difference is that significant. Basically, the ECU is advancing ignition timing further to make more power because knock is not so easily detected.

The car feels properly muscular (for a 1.4!) and is so much more responsive / feisty. It feels like a different car. I will not be running any other fuel in the car now. I don't care if it costs more.

But as mentioned. This car has an adaptive ECU. If your own car does not have an adaptive ECU and is tuned for a specific octane rating (like 95), you might not notice any difference.

My W204 C63 loves the stuff, not so my wallet. Local Esso is just over a mile away so it is way more handy than the Shell which is five miles further away. Doing limited mileage current no report upon economy but the engine loves it.

Running a GR Yaris on a mix of Shell and Esso. Can report that all Esso petrol stations I’ve been with super unleaded are all 99+ midlands area.

I use the petrol prices app to find the cheapest but not many people updating it. Paying 135.9 - 139.9 in the last few weeks.

GR Yaris mapped to 98 I believe anything lower octane “could cause increased wear and knock” according to the manual.

Biggest improvement I believe (reduced LPSI) is low down torque with high boost pressures. Big old chested feel to the engine 360nm in a light car

The Esso website says: “Synergy Supreme+ 99 is actually ethanol free (except, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland).”

I don’t know if this means those regions get 99RON with some ethanol content or the older 97RON version?

"Although our pumps have E5 labels on them, our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is actually ethanol free (except, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland). Legislation requires us to place these E5 labels on pumps that dispense unleaded petrol with ‘up to 5% ethanol’, including those that contain no ethanol, which is why we display them on our Synergy Supreme+ 99 pumps."

That's most of the country, really!
