Hi, I’m new here. I have recently acquired a 2013 Vauxhall Insignia estate car. It’s the newest car I’ve ever owned and I love it. Drives lovely and is perfect for the family. We bought it from auction and it appears to have been very well looked after. 9 Vauxhall service stamps and was used as the show car so has all the extra gadgets. When we got it home there was no evidence of cambelt so we’ve had that done along with a service and mot which it passed but need two arms on the rear. Sorry I don’t have much car knowledge.

I have an issue though - after a short distance of travel I noticed lots of squeaking/squealing I think coming from one or multiple wheels (this was here before MOT). I’m assuming it’s brake related. Everyone keeps telling me it’s a dry spot on the brakes and not to worry. They’ve advised to take it somewhere safe and do some hard braking to clear it. It’s incredibly irritating not to mention embarrassing driving along with the racket. Today I noticed my rear passenger wheel felt a lot hotter than the others after a short trip out. I don’t want to look like a paranoid idiot, spend money that I don’t need to and just basically go against what everyone has told me by having the brake pads replaced. The fact that it’s just passed an MOT would suggest the pads and discs are ok. Any advice?
Welcome to PH, sounds like a decent buy! It sounds like you might have a binding rear caliper, I wouldn't rush to replace all the pads and would take it to a garage to get it inspected first and see what they recommend doing. If it is binding, you'll likely need a new rear caliper and possible pads and discs as well. Annoying to have a lot of up front expense after just buying a car, but worth the investment!

Hi,

I am all new to the forum - but looking forward to get to know a lot of you petrolheads!

Currently looking for a TVR; T350 or Tuscan - and would like to hear your ideas as to which to prefer. I know the TVR's cars have their flaws, but I guess the issues would part of the game...

Views?
Welcome to PH! It might be worth having a dig around in our T350 and Tuscan forums, or asking for some advice in our General TVR forum here. And of course once you've made your mind up, you can browse our classifieds to find one herethumbup

I am new and am having curious issue. I just tried to start a new topic. However when I choose the Porsche forum the start a new topic button is unavailable. Are there additional privileges to post a new topic outside of general gassing (that is where my topic appeared even though it is a Porsche specific question)
It sounds like you're selecting our Porsche parent group here, which you're unable to post in as this shows all of the posts across all of our Porsche forums. You'll need to select one of the specific Porsche forums to post in, such as Porsche General. Hope that helps!

Morning all,

I’m Adam and I live in the West Midlands.
I’m intending to buy my first Porsche (997 or 991) later this year so have been loitering on PH threads for some time trying to understand the pros and cons of each variant and do’s and don’ts of buying a pre owned 911.

What a minefield!!

I’m sure I’ll be asking lots of questions on the Porsche forums that have probably been asked before, so you’ve all been warned.

Cheers
Adam

Thank you for reporting this. Unfortunately this issue affects a very small number of new registered users, and you are clearly one of them. This should pass after 14 days.
