Very lucky I would say, had he been another couple of feet over the line at the time of collision you may have been in a pretty bad state....

Terrible driving on their part, what were they thinking?

Hopefully the dog wasn't too shaken up along with you and the passenger both being OK biggrin

As a Caterham owner that's terrifying. Glad you're okay. Good old Ford Focus.
Yes, my thoughts too (I have a similar car).

At best you'd be in hospital with broken legs, crushed feet and god knows what else. And that really boils my liquids to be honest...

I always like to look at the positives, at least you don’t have to worry about getting that chip sorted.
Good point!
I hope the insurance company doesn't use the windscreen chip as a get out clause!

Lucky escape there, glad all's okay.

Indeed. It was bad enough that I physically flinched at the impact. Excellent that all three of you were unharmed.

Ouch!

That's actually a particularly nasty accidents to have, similar to the small overlap crash tests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAGQpMMxatg

Because the overlap is so small the impact is likely to be outside the chassis leg and therefore a lot of the energy is absorbed by the wheel is getting pushed into the passenger compartment.

You were very lucky!!

Bloody hell! Glad you walked away.

Shows how strong modern cars are. I know that A pillar has been pushed back a lot but still.

Hopefully dash cam + witnesses = more than a slap in the wrist for the Passat driver.

I have 2 witnesses who said the VW was driving like a looney and that he had already overtaken several cars previously. VW driver had 3 passengers, all adults probably in their 30-40's. What annoyed me most is that none of them apologised (they were not English if that makes any difference).

After watching a million traffic police programs I was pretty sure none of them would speak English (or at least with a very heavy Eastern European accent) when I spotted the 10 year old+ passat and hi vis jacket..

Glad you are OK though.

Jaysus, very lucky escape there! You really had absolutely no time whatsoever to react. Glad everyone involved is ok and that the pooch isn’t too shaken up. 100% dangerous driving by the Passat there, will hopefully get done on evidence of dashcam footage and witness statements.

Clucking bell that's a nasty one, utter tool in the passat.

Glad you’re ok - literally talking about the smallest of mph’s or angles with that being very different.

What did the police say?

Nasty I know but I assumed Polish driver when I saw an old passerati doing something stupid. That sort of behaviour is very common on Polish roads with people sticking out in to oncoming traffic thinking they will overtake. Had many a near miss myself. (Most trips in fact)

Glad you are both ok, hope the dog is ok too. As mentioned that is one hell of an impact and just goes to show how safe modern vehicles are.

Hoping they get punished with the full force of the law.

Having watched that clip a few times now, I really can't see how that is anything other than dangerous driving.

It's so utterly negligent that it's verging on deliberate.

Edit: I'm not suggesting it *was* actually deliberate.

I have to say I've never seen anything like that, I'm watching the first half of the video waiting for something to happen but expecting the usual idiot on wrong side on a corner or jumping out of a junction.. that manoeuvre makes no sense at all.
Glad you, passenger and dog are okay. That focus certainly earned it keep protecting you all.
I'd be sending that footage to the police as well as the insurance, that wasn't a mistake on the part of the VW driver it was incredibly dangerous and they need their license removing.

Defo proves the value of a dashcam, open and shut case for the insurance.

That’s shocking to see. I’m so glad you’re all okay. I hope the other driver was insured but I’m sadly not optimistic. I hope they have the book thrown at them. That deserves time inside.

Wow.. glad you're both ok.

I can't think of any reason (other than attempted suicide) why the Passat would do that. Absolutely shocking driving, and they had the cheek to indicate!
I very much doubt it was a deliberate, just a very poor standard of driving, as said, probably to close to the car in front and did not see the Focus or a very poor judgement of speed.

Glad everyone walked away, from experience it takes a little time to get over these things.
