I’ve always really liked Beryl and Pearl, but I have to say that Agatha looks absolutely stunning.

In fact I’ve just gifted her 1000 credits.

local FB marketplace dealer ad (you might need a fb account to see the pic :

I like that. I like it a lot. But at what point during the descent to crack (or-other-Class-A-of one's-choice)-fuelled madness do you think 'know what, what that classic 90s S Class really needs is a boot spoiler'?

Perfect colour, reasonable-ish spec and not an entirely pauper version, but spoiled by an early-adopter Gerald. Or Klaus. Or something.

At 3 grand I'm tempted. At 6 I'm not.
Ah, cdg, the wheels, spoiler and entry level six make it the ironic bargiste choice du jour. I would never tire of counting the nodding heads of those who 'know' its cool because its crap. A car for the post modernist chic set, at home on the set of a suitable anglo continental film like Killing Zoe but lacking the bombastic gravitas needed for a Ronin. A painless way to dip ones toe into the pleasures of gently, comfortably mocking ones existential preferences whilst still retaining ones self respect and the approbation of those who matter.

And its a groovy colour man. smile
I really like these, and the colour is wonderful. What I couldn't live with is the spoiler, the half an engine, and the price.

Another lovely colour, on another great car, this time with proper power and no ridiculous "extras", but for heaven's sake, like the Benz, they are pricing for two of them.

Have we had this 300 E 4Matic? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353238876698?ViewItem=&...

I have always had a soft spot for these, even though their over-complexity and low build numbers make them fiendishly expensive to run and repair. I rather like the idea that there is essentially a G-wagen under there with front, centre and rear differentials giving maximum traction; in fact, better than a G because the diffs lock and unlock automatically.

This one is very high spec. The colours also are great: smoke silver over medium red leather! It looks to me like it must be an import from the Far East as it does not have indicator repeaters on the wings.

It is way over-priced. The ad is rubbish. And the location lacks grass 'n' gravel.

Well it's looking like a Sunday meeting, the motorhub slk has preformed faultlessly for a week apart from not being able to reset the service warning weirdly so if anyone has a Star and you're coming on Sunday can you have a look at this please

I'm going to be honest and say I love a good A Type, not a popular opinion I know. Unfortunately it seems they have a tendency to rust, horrendously.

I'll be in Cambridge all weekend so either day is fine, but I have moved to Sunday as that appears to be the popular choice. If the CL isn't fixed next week then I'll have to take the E39, but it does need a run out.

They do seem to have nonexistent cills under the plastic covers in most cases

It's actually a rather handsome car in profile like that.

You're all mad old fishes. Too much babestation for you - time for an early night!

Talking about Merc colours, here's a new one on me. A RHD special order SL60 by the Sultan of Moneybags, Agatha Metallic....

Glorious, but it probably should be at 15 x budget.

Ross's redheaded stripper will be cheaper and lower maintenance than that.
Quite possibly true laugh Is this going to be the new way of judging a car's running costs? How expensive are they compared to a stabby redhead laugh

About the only angle they look half decent from.

As an aside - and I speak as an (ignorant) owner of one - but why did some convertibles become known as Spiders?
General belief is they were named after a lightweight horse drawn carriage that resembled a 'spider'.

Just read that. Thanks for the link, I'm now better informed.

What's going on with used car prices? I've just watched the latest Hoovie's garage and his 740i E38 and I went to look at E38 prices and the cheapest one on PH is basically £5k! WTF!

It's definitely a foreign market version - lack of side repeaters as you say and also a UK market would have headlamp wash wipe and a sunroof. Biggest give away though is it has a km only speedo.

However where is it from? It's RHD so an Asian market like HK or Japan, but a 4-Matic with climate control (rather than just aircon) and heated seats seems a bit of an extreme cold weather spec....

So an import with 150k on the clock and rust coming through on the front wings, moss on the rubbers and no MOT for a year - for £8,000. Good luck with that.

Also I note, Shillington McShill face has relisted his immaculate S124 which was a "No" from the barge jury for lack of aircon...

He's also got this up. Nice alloys and another immaculate one.

Yes, Covid seems to have driven prices right up. My hunt for a CLK 320 continues, what would have cost me circa £2500 a year ago is more like £4k now!

Those W221s are, in my limited experience, actually very good cars though. They're quiet, comfortable, and everything a decent barge should be. They make long distance driving very easy! It's too long for me to remember whether they're actually better than my LS460, but I wouldn't necessarily put it past it. They are a bit more chintzy of course (what isn't, the LS460 is largely the opposite of chintz) but they're still nice cars to drive and be in.
I'm impressed by mine, it's a significantly better barge than my Jaguar X350 and the only significant downsides are, ironically, to do with the ridiculous engine.

It does look good doesn't it, particularly given how poor the W220 usually looks, but I can't help but wonder if the interior is really that immaculately clean or if there is some creative photo editing going on. None the less spending more than a couple of grand for a W220 doesn't make a lot of sense to me, however clean, unless you truly cannot stretch the budget to the much better in every way W221; it's not like a 7 series where you can clearly see why you'd get an E38 over an E65, or a Jaguar X308 over the X350.
