Is Duxford still on? I am really looking forward to it. I have found two pictures of myself the last time I was there. A mere 38 years ago.

This is a nice tale from this month's Octane:

Myself and WorldBoss are still planning to attend. Most exciting thing I've done for months!

Thanks, it's a very special car to me because of it being in the family from new. I was once offered 7 figures for it by an idiot who thought he can put a price on my head for it, snooty tt he was thinking I was some beach bum drifter ( although I do look like a tramp ) - told him to at least triple the money or go fk himself, he went to fk himself wink

It's never for sale because A - I don't need the money no matter what the figure would be, it wouldn't change anything for me and B - I can't bring myself to sell it anyway and I don't want to.
You forgot to mention option C.

(Personally, I love a bit of over-the-top Walt fantasist stuff on the internet. Always good for a laugh and one can generally spot it from a thousand yards.
I do like how the gents of this corner of PH are just moving along as though nothing happened, kudos for that.)

Thoughts go to those threadists that have lost relatives, it's a crap time.

I was trying to sort coming to the meet. But apparently the people of Barnsley are unable to wash their hands properly and so anyone who lives South Yorkshire is now in Tear 3 (deliberate spelling). It's all a bit wk.
Yet I'm fine in East Yorkshire where vast amounts of foreign trucks come in every day, I'm baffled by a lot of the strange rules like 10pm closing and only drinks with meals
Sometimes when Jean-Claude Van Tam stands on his soap box and shows us graphs of stuff, he refers to Sheffield as Yorkshire and the Humber.
If I use that graph, can I pretend I'm not in Tear 3?

Strange times re TWA. He had me at W210 E55... thankfully talk of Ross and his girlfriend and showing her his armrest of delight has rescued the day.

I'll be there with my old man and a W124. Surely enough for anyone to attend.

I have been away for the past week, so have been periodically catching up on this thread throughout the day....it’s been a rollercoaster, that is all I can say.

Might go on babestation later, purely for research.
It does seem to have turned into an "old man with a barge research thread recently". I think there's a dangerous Lex/CDG combo Lexus thing going on here?

Lex seems to be scoring them, and CDG is our continental barge correspondent.

We were listening to the news and even considering going down on the Friday for two nights if East Yorkshire went into tier 3, just for something to do it seems like lately all we do is work and home

Heavens, what a to-do!

Kudos for the "microwaveable doner kebab" detail though. Credit where it's due.

I am a bit freaked out by this TW business.

Is TW124 an alias for one of the thread regulars just for a wind-up?

If so, thanks for the long detailed email about the sheddy W124 and the 20 on so photos that accompanied it.

As the stories of McLaren SLRs and multimillion pound classic Mercedes progressed in parallel to our exchange of emails I did question why anyone with such a collection would be making so much effort to sort and sell a ratty old Merc.

TIm from Wigan seemed a really nice guy and the 124 appeared to be the perfect My First W124 for me to dip my toe in “classic” Merc ownership.

I have not replied to his last email.

That latter bit I believe (or at least is factually correct smile ). Since sold to Glendale Foods, I think, albeit wiki says the first actual micro-bab was Campbells' idea.

Interesting!
According to Wikipedia a typical American barge measures 195 by 35 feet.

I think you'll find my family invented the pocket barge, and assembled a whole fleet of them - a family barge dysentery, if you like smile

I'm a credulous fool at my sharpest and most suspicious, but I retain no little faith that TW is genuine.

Certainly I'd still be following-up about a cheap-but-interesting car I wanted to buy.

Suburban? Navigator?

The other possibilities include some absolute delights, and some absolute horrors. If we're talking within thread, it's about 1:10 delight:horror ratio.

I reckon if you ignore the other stuff the car will be fine and it’s only a grand. I’d probably avoid sending a deposit without seeing it though.

I’d been “throwing shade” on the guys tall tales for weeks.

Reminded me of a story about my own grandfather on a cruise in the 60’s got pissed and was showing off to some new friends about his e type. Then he gets a call a couple of weeks after his return and they are coming to visit him. He literally went out and bought one!

Strange question Mike but how do you know what used cats are worth? Just ebay or does your breaking of old mercs mean you have better outlets?

Tobinen - no problem asking - we're moving to our place in Spain, hoping to use that as a base then do some travelling ( obviously if things get a lot more settled ) and to do some sailing around the Greek islands which is one of my dreams, hence getting rid of a lot of cars I've been sitting on for quite some time now. Most of them are actually investments for me, some are very personal which won't be sold ever, but the majority are being moved on in the coming months into next year. I'm hoping to capitalise because I can't draw down on a pension for 4 more years yet. And, life it too short to mess about waiting for that to happen not to mention hoarding cars that are just chunks of cash waiting to be spent on doing some proper living before it's too late.

The 928GTS, SL60 gone to a trader, S55, both W108's, the W116 450 SEL 6.9, 190SL, 560SL, 3 x 129's to a trader have all gone up to now.

In the pipeline to go next week are 2 x 129's to a dealer which leaves me a 600SL, one auction house is selling these for me - 1 x 500E, 1 x E500, 3 x 126 SEC's, W112 300SE. Another auction company are going to do these - C43 AMG, SL55, 140 S600, 560 SEL, a couple of 123's and a 190. I have another old friend who's a trader taking 2 off me in December. I've also got a SLR Maclaren Merc which is going to a specialist on sale or return with 1200 miles on it. And far too many 126's and all those are going to different people except one I'm keeping.

I'll be left with some nice stuff, roughly 10 cars and I'll sell a few others privately. Some of the sentimental cars I'm hoping to offer up for display, maybe a museum or a dealer etc to save me the storage and insurance costs.

Realistically, I'm asset rich, cashflow poor currently and Covid hasn't helped and I've a couple of dreams to live for.
I'm looking for a 190 if its a W201? Have you got any details you can share please?
