Great to meet everyone thanks to Big Ben for taking the Mrs 316 aka Stabby Redhead for a spin in the DB9 made her day, a wide range of cars 5 running V12's must be a meet record and without doubt I took slowest car title with no competition with the 300d smile

The Century sounded incredibly sweet when it pulled away. What a special car that is. I get the whole paint thing now as well.

Many v12s and a return to Mercedes for this meet. Strange we have been through SL and Jag phases before though!

It's funny you should say that, I forgot to release the foot operated handbrake until I was already moving and it released with a thunk! I thought to myself that must've sounded bad as I drove away.

When I was a much younger and considerably richer person than I am now, I 'nearly' bought a 560SEC with a lot of expensive add-ons from the mighty AMG when they were, ostensibly, a separate entity. It was about 70 thousand pounds which was a fair old lump of dosh even for an idiot like me to even contemplate. However, finance was available and I thought, in my infinite wisdom that I could 'Man maths' a solution.

Sadly my wife disagreed when the finance payments were about £2000 per month over the rest of my life. I did get to test drive it though and I can report it was FUN and pleasingly rapid smile
Doffs cap, accordingly! What did you get instead?

One of my big regrets is deciding a 560 SEC in brown over brown leather was probably a bit of a silly idea. It was £2k and pretty tidy.
Browwn over de browwn ledder? Oooo aye ayyye! Horny!

Here’s a curio, Mazda Xedos9 with the 2.3 Miller cycle engine. Needs subframe rust removal for an MOT but looks in good shape up top at £1200.

My affection for BMWs is ordinarily barely noticeable, but I really like that. Wonderful colour and pared-down simplicity. Great spot.

Smashing outing to Duxford, worth the drive just to see a Century in the (deep, lustrous, orange peel free painted) metal. I discovered that an E65 760Li on 20" wheels rides better than a W221 S600 on 18" wheels too.

Also a thank you to WorldBoss for fixing my faulty electric window and power folding mirror with a software update to a door module, I st you not.

Gerald would have been proud of the positioning and quality of my new leaper.

I’m going back to do this. Sounded brilliant from the outside.

It was a highlight standing right next to the twin person spitfire when it started. It then turned and blew us all over!

The S600 crew were very impressive. Like a team of specialists looking after a squad of fighter planes!

Just got back 1/2 hour ago.

Great to see some faces I haven't seen for years and finally meet others.

When I arrived, Prinny kindly offered me the keys to his 760li to finally see what the V12 fuss was about. I have to say I was very impressed with the turbine smoothness of the engine and how incredibly quiet it was. Made my CL V8 seem very course in comparison.

I also got to sample the Mercedes V12 with twin turbos in WorldBoss's S600, which I would place somewhere in-between the 760li and my twin turbo CL. The glorious V12 starter motor noise, sounded very muted exotic almost when it started. The power delivery I thought was very familiar.

Any thanks to Prinny for the very classy phone holder wink

A near 480 mile round trip for me today

Impressive Alec, but the perfect car to do such miles in. I must admit that I had noted the CL from your reader ride thread, but hadn’t clocked the difference you have made to it.

In the metal, as with the XJ, it’s mightily impressive. You have a very good eye modifying to give a slightly menacing look reflecting your changes under the bonnet.

The Loser Conference definitely was the best ever. There was a great turn out with very interesting cars and it was super to meet everyone, some for the first time others after a long time. The Century was a winner with my boy and I am under strict instructions to buy one. But Duxford was just superb. The display aircraft are utterly amazing but the opportunity to take a joy ride in some of the planes is unbeatable and was quite unexpected. For the two of us the cost was "only" £81 and we got a good 20 minutes flying (which was quite enough for me, thank you very much).

We had a spiffing run back. We were held up on the A14 by some slow moving, lumbering Japanese jalopy but once we cleared that back marker we were able to nip up to Oundle (very pretty town) for a quick supper before bombing home. From Oundle up to Northumberland was sub-three hours, average speed 75mph door to door, 18.8mpg.

Thanks to all for an absolutely great day out.
