Long time lurker of this thread here.

We've just had our '2nd' car written off and since we're no longer in need of 2 commuters there's a chance I could convince the other half into a much less economical, yet more interesting, car.

Happened to stumble on this E430. Apart from what looks like slightly frilly rear wheel arches, what's the thread opinion? A hair under £2k for a 4.3 litre V8 seems like a reasonable deal...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202010245...

Actually like that!!
Me too. I think these cars are generally regarded as epic in every way except in the way that avoids rust. This looks good to me and I'd be inclined to go for it (but some of the thread-savages appear to mistrust my judgement).

Get it bought, post a forecourt shot.
It ain't wearing its miles well inside though is it!!

Not much consistency on E34 M5 Touring prices - that silver one is at £50k, then there's this blue one at £80k....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-M5-3-8-4dr/32429610...

...or this black one at £32k...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-LHD-E34-M5-TOURING-...

I'm glad I bought my E34 when they were all more affordable...

Looking at the rust it won't be underneath either these tend to rust from the inside out, if you can see it it will be five times worse once you have a proper look sadly

E34s truly are lovely things smile (I know I’m biased!!) incidentally here’s a couple of pictures of mine being used for wedding duties two weeks ago, where it was just old enough to be interesting. The E39 would have looked all wrong as my wedding car
If I've read that right and it was your wedding, congratulations. Nice car, lovely wife. You're younger than I expected and definitely 'punching...' smile

All that waxing, back to blacking on the tyres, massively overexposed photos, and this is their idea of stripes?

Nah...

Tatty driver's bolster and a scruffy steering wheel don't seem too bad. Sure, it's a little scruffy and frilly, and obviously benefiting from COVID pricing, but I reckon that looks pretty decent. A new seat, or a repair, and a replacement wheel would transform it, wouldn't it?

Easily get a few years cheap and classy motoring out of that.

In my defence I meant I liked that as a conceptual barge, not that actual one as a tangible representation of my deeply unfashionable urge to shun societally and culturally imposed pressure to avoid anything with more than three cylinders and an engine block that will fit into a 10inch pizza box. What's that you say? Yeah, sure, supersize, why not?

I think today is day 10 of Covid isolation, which is good. And it may be the delirium, but I am pretty sure I posted this S60R around Christmas. It's defo the colour combo I'd go for. Can't think why it hasn't sold...

To pay £2k for a car with rust bubbling through and arches like that you'd have to be mad, and I agree with ian316, that'll likely as not be utterly rotten underneath. I suppose you'll have a nice woofling V8 to drag it's rotten carcass to the scrap yard in 11 months when it's catastrophically failed it's MOT.

It appears to have been trimmed in the hide of David Dickinson. It can't be that orange skinned, foul faced but ultimately empty Trumpkin...

It is quite a desirable interior for the R. Looks good in real life

To be fair, I saw the interior in a black c70 drop top, a mk1 and it was stunning. I'm just against any further culling of the Duke to further our pecadillo...

You can have black and silver but why would you when they did things like this?

https://www.gumtree.com/p/volvo/volvo-s60-r-low-mi...

There was defo one of those with the orange which was perhaps a lite ott (S60 RRR), but they're much more interesting this way imo.

Lovely spot. Congratulations once again. Un-gallant of me to mention it, but the car really does look fantastic.
