Above thread but looks a decent old bruiser for the price. E55 150k and clean MOT, frill free arches, factory nav and ortho seats...

Seller sounds like a decent chap but check this line out "In January it had a matching set of OE spec Continental contisport tyres fitted...". This car has good provenance.

That is a fair example in a nice colour but 8 ½ grand? Really? I think I would prefer the slightly faster, rather more discreet, considerably younger and infinitely less rusty s211 E500 5.5 from a couple of days ago:

As my lease X5 let me down again last week, I started looking at what I might get as an interim... (it's behaving now so I don't need to worry...yet)

Strangely drawn to these R500's for no reason I can discern.

For your enjoyment:

As per a poster on another thread, "it's not a looker, is it?"........

I'm the same that Volvo is very tempting but a long long way away - I'd be interested in hearing about the Renault 4 if you bag it, my uncle had one many years ago.

I like those, but they scare me. I know a few people who have owned one and despite catastrophic electric faults with one and a gearbox fault with another, loved them. So practical, quick and wafty.

As far as people carriers that are shaped like woodlice go, I really like these paperbag

It'd also make a lot of sense for me, as I have 3 kids.

Are we looking at the same car? Looks a bit rough round the edges and messed about with to me. "The last of the fast and furious".

I have 3x big dogs, so would also make sense if the seats fold flat like in the ML's...

I DO NOT NEED ANOTHER CAR.

Another nice 740 (of the slow Swedish persuasion, not the Bavarian variety) just sneaking into thread.

https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1280814

A little lacking in cylinders and automated gear selection compared to most of the fare we sample here, but those seats look squashy:

Don't like the grille, but at a grand it looks a decent, cheap fast car and I do love a fast swede.

Nb. Please note, I always practice the age old tradition of rounding down to the nearest big figure, so £1400 is a grand and damn anyone who disagrees!!

Lovely old bus, but to my eyes, its not worth much more than a grand...

Nb. Just adding, that in conjunction with my technique of rounding down to the nearest big figure mentioned in a previous volvo related post, I also have a rule that no old 'non classic' volvo is worth more than a grand, regardless what they are in actuality selling for!!....

Handsome looking E38 on Collecting Cars, these still look so right to me. I wonder what it will top out at...

ETA - there's also a couple more threadworthy cars going through at the moment.

For a rounded grand it looks ok. What do you expect for a rounded bag in these covid priced times?

Sometimes modified cars can be well looked after cars. Ok, not always, but it's a rounded thousand pounds!

I'm surprised how quickly the '80s ones have gone from a state where you could buy a ratty one for £700 and a mint, old-money "family owned from new" example for £1400 to a point where the latter will barely get you a crash-damaged wreck that's sat mouldering away in a leaky garage for the past few years.

I've just bought an R320 CDI LWB. I collect it within the next week so will post an obligatory petrol station shot and short review (if its helpful). I have 1 huge dog, a fussy child and a mrs who like to take the kitchen sink with us when we travel. This car seemed to tick all the boxes. From my research, the LWB is the one to go for, although parking might now be a little more challenging due to huge size and mahooosive doors.

Let me know if you have any questions when I've got mine and I'll be happy to run through smile

I'm not generally a fan of people carriers, but I've always approved of the R Class - Mercedes Benz seemed to realise that people with big families shouldn't have to put up with nasty plastics and pathetically small engines, or go for an SUV.
