Thanks for that info. I was tempted too. I like the green but it's just a couple of shades of green out for me. It also looks like orange peel though perhaps that's in period correct?

I made the slathered in underseal mistake in my youth and it's not a mistake I want to revisit.

W220 was 3cm narrower than the W140, and the W221 is about 1.5cm narrower. W140 is about 4cm narrower than the "family runabout" XC60 though, no wonder these fools can't park or get their cars through a gap anymore.

The goldfish glasshouse of the W140 and C140 look very strange, but do make the car nice and airy, and I'm not actually very keen on the overall look of either with their massively overbodied with coasters for wheels look, but the detailing is decent and I'll forgive anything of a car that had a 400bhp quad cam V12 when a Cavalier with 150bhp was considered fast.

Interesting article on the W140 here

yet in 2015?

So ...
Lying?
Don’t know what they are talking about?
New chassis (££££££)
Repair completed with no welding ... hmm
And you mean it’s slightly suspicious that one mile later on the odo, the very next day, it passed the mot with that all done?

That was a big tub of under seal.

I only intend to affix them for when I am showing the W124.

I'm sure I'll get some stick, but I love this.
It's hard to make a Lexus more ugly, but I guess if one tries hard enough, anything is possible.

That ebay one might be real...
The article isn't quite correct, the last Allard saloon prior to this, that I am aware of, was the Allardette; a supercharged 105e Anglia avaiable in 997cc, 1,200cc (as mine was) and I believe a very few 1,340cc.

The W140 and Coupe version are too wide. Weren't subsequent equivalents narrower?

The W140 was reworked as the roof was deemed too low. If you look a W140 from side on it looks like a W124 that's had a reverse roof chop. The glasshouse looks very tall. It looks as deep as the flanks. Some marketing gurus missed out on an opportunity to pillage the back catalogue and say the tall glasshouse of the W140 and C140 were a nod to the pagoda roofed SL?

Funny, I walked past one the other day and noticed this - once you see it its difficult to not see it. Looks almost cartoonish. E38s on the other hand have a very low roofline (not quite jag though!) and quite aggressive rake in the glasshouse which makes it look far more muscular than the E39 which has a very tall and rounded glasshouse. My other pet peeve with glasshouses is XJ (300s, 40s) - adore the cars but hate that even on the SWB the rear doors look significantly longer than the front including the windows. E38 has a perfect balance in the glasshouse between front and rear which makes it look very driver orientated without compromising rear seat comfort too much. All this plus interior and driver dynamics mean I would struggle to do anything else but fix my 7 were it to ever eat its chain guides...

Have to say also I sat in a 1998 XJ the other day and the view from the drivers seat, looking all the way down the sculpted bonnet is absolutely to die for.

It doesn't quite work, but that somehow makes it more appealing. Perhaps losing the chrome would help.
I just love that, and with a recent house move now have space for untold cars, but a tad less money with which to buy them. Plus I have already taken delivery of one additional car this month, with wifely approval which must not be lost.

A quick wash, brush up, new plates and tarting up of minor bodywork blemishes makes my £1,900 seem fair value.

Brother-in-law, since passed was Chris Humberstone and I remember him doing stuff with Allard, but the business went bankrupt soon I think

You surely can't buy a car with the number plate "NOB"!

Technically yes, but the chances of being pulled are virtually nil IMO
FP do legal ones, and they would probably put a postcode etc on this style as well I would think as I can't see anything illegal about them?

I'm well in favour of this. I Wouldn't pay 5k for one but I salute anyone who does
