Have we all seen the new Toyota Crown? You've probably heard about the old ones.
Unfortunately the new one is not coming to Blighty or Oz. But 40 other countries are getting it.
And while the new Crown is not necessarily about thrills, I invite you to wear a different hat: engineer, product manager, salesperson.
. . . It's a saloon, but it rides on a lifted suspension.
. . . Choice of two petrol engines, but each is strictly a hybrid.
. . . Not about performance, but it does offer up to 400 lb-ft of torque.
. . . All configurations are AWD.
. . . Optional two-toned colour: with contrasting black bonnet!
Weird. That's what reviews say about this car. But I reckon it's a good weird.
More importantly, the new Crown is reported to have Lexus-like features. Toyota is democratising that little bit of premium. Possibly because the Koreans and others are doing the same.

Well that's horrible. Not sure what ride height thing is all about- "Hey you! Love a 3-box but wish it was dynamically a bit worse in every way?" (Or "Love a 3-box but got a sore back" - age happens.)
And the Lexus-like features - the old Crown was a LWB GS with slightly different trims and QC standards (heresy, pitchforks...) I'm equally unsure where they're going with that one, incremental difference just became a bit more incremental.

Maybe someone in a European ‘design studio’ has pointed that out. They seem to be going with the abbreviated BYD here.
Don't look round the back then! This may have been already posted...or maybe everyone is familiar with them, but I visited continental Europe last week for the first time since COVID and was surprised to see these bizarre looking Renaults everywhere.
It's somewhere between a lifted Megan saloon and a poor man's BMW X6??? Either way I had never see one before.

It's an Arkana isn't it? They do sell them here, or at least advertise them. Maybe they've sold 3 of them. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_ArkanaIt's somewhere between a lifted Megan saloon and a poor man's BMW X6??? Either way I had never see one before.

They do sell them in the UK, I was behind one at the weekend.
I was surprised to find them on sale as most of the interesting Renaults don't make it over here.
I would imagine they took a punt, hoping they'd be enough punters wanting an 'X6' on a lemonade budget. Nope, never seen one.I was surprised to find them on sale as most of the interesting Renaults don't make it over here.

I was more surprised to see it called a 'Mégane Conquest' in Montenegro as apparently 'Arkana' is too similar to a Yugoslavian war criminal's name.unsprung said:

I thought it had a decent enough profile until I looked at the wheels.
Sure, it has wheels all right. But why didn't they fit tyres to the wheels? Unless those black rubber band things around the outside of the alloys are meant to provide contact with the road.
