Not sure if we have had this yet.

You probably have all heard of the Renault Safrane but did you know they did one with Twin Turbo V6 with a manual 'box and 4WD?

Built with input from Hartge and Irmscher, apparently.
I really like this. I once had the pleasure of driving a V6 Safrane and found it to be a supremely comfortable wafty barge.
More information here: https://www.influx.co.uk/cars/renault-safrane-bitu...

I have also just found out that they did a Safrane fitted with a Volvo 2.5 5-pot diesel, too.

That is the very definition of brave pill and I love the concept.

I don't think I've seen a sunroof on a van before. I think it has been a while since I had a car with one.

Not a car, but did find it interesting that they made the Bedford CF in an ultra-poverty fleet spec where a rear bumper, passenger seat and factory paint were all optional extras. Imagine how miserable you'd be having to do hundreds of miles a week in that.

Reminds me of the Murvi day Van's of the 80s.

Porsche '965' 911 prototype with an Audi V8 in the back

The silver car with the line down the middle looks like it might be a styling model for the final car to show two versions, with the other side looking slightly different. The black car in the video is a prototype, the other prototypes were crushed.

The Safrane used a carbon prop shaft like on the 4wd Renault Espace.

It wasn’t very strong and is very expensive so many of these are now 2wd.

That looks like half a car parked in front of a mirror to me. Clay model for 959 styling signoff?

Ah, yes it is in a mirror. This was after the 959, as a follow up, the front of the silver car is a bit 993 and the rear lights look a bit different to 959 lights.

Porsche were trying to follow up the 959 with a more mainstream production version with a V8 but it never went past development phase.

On a similar theme to Porsche's with Audi engines, how about an Audi with a Porsche engine? The water cooled 928 V8 being developed in an Audi Coupe. Rear edge of the bonnet needed to be lifted to clear the engine

I spotted a green one in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire a number of years back. Always assumed it was a “bitsa” car.

Yeah, I can't ever remember seeing a four-door RS2000 here (in Australia).

We did, I had a mate (Will, g’day) who wanted one.. I remember telling him the front end looked a bit naff. I’m not a Ford person so shouldn’t judge

Wow, well there you go! It doesn't surprise me as the RS2000 here (Australia) was a tarted up normal escort so it makes sense that one could throw the RS2000 bits onto a 4 door....

Morleys writing about the steering wheel placement is funny:

article said:
A specific RS steering wheel was also fitted but even that couldn’t hide the fact that the Escort’s steering column was seriously on the drugs. The column stuck out of the firewall at a weird angle and was offset to the left (in right-hand-drive cars) making for an odd look and feel the first time you sat (almost) behind it.

If Wikki is to be believed, the production figures for Standard in India should make McLaren feel a bit better. Between 1980 and 1984 they produced 12 cars. 10 cars in the first 2 years, then nothing for the next 2 years, then 1 a year for the next 2.

In a market of 1.2 billion people....
