Fancy a Citroen SM but worried that it is too common and not sufficiently complicated? No worries, Ligier made a couple of hundred JS2s in the early 70s with a mid mounted Maserati V6. They were sold through the Citroen network and the SM production eventually moved to the Ligier factory in in Abrest. It all went pear shaped when Maserati went into administration and Citroen was bought by Peugeot in 1975

I saw one of those once, maybe at Goodwood? Hints of the Monica here but some aspects of the JS 2 - bonnet slats especially has triggered me , in the modern sense . I'm traumatised. Because I now have un-erased the Marcos Mantis from my memory - the car which is not so much jolie laide as plain laide. If it is any comfort , they do look a lot better in the flesh . Well, a bit maybe ...

I've always liked the 'Gerry Anderson' style interior of the Mantis...

No idea if its been in this thread already, but today I learnt about Ford's skunkworks V10 Mustang project of the early 2000s. Mad but cool.

Over on Youtube, a couple of guys built a V10 engine based on that idea. Playlist of the engine build:

AMC's final car was nearly the Alpine GTA. It was never sold but some prototypes were built.

And because of this car, the tail lights found their way on to the Lotus Elan M100.

Peter Stevens, the designer, was watching Sunday TV drama Howard’s Way and saw a GTA on it. Realising the lights were the right size and shape, he checked the next day and found they had been designed to be authorised for Ferderal regulations and therefore they were used by Lotus.

Fiat 850 Moretti Sportiva Coupé - only 300 made, what a pretty little thing!

Looks like a lot of 330 GTC influence in there.

That shape Mustang has aged a lot less horrifically than the retro thing which came after.....

Another Fiat here:

The 2015 Tipo. At first I thought I didn't know it existed because it had been launched in Europe after I moved to Oz. But now, it had been on sale for 5 years before then. I never knowingly saw one, never read anything about it's launch, had zero awareness of it's existence until now.

You very rarely see these, don’t think they were a very good seller in this particular segment.

How strange, I saw one of these at the weekend and just like you had no idea they'd ever carried on with them after the original.

I was idly reading a review of the F31 BMW 3 series wagon and the Tipo (in estate form) was mentioned as a "also consider this...". Had no idea until then. The review of it was actually pretty good (taking into account the bargain basement pricing). I'm not sure in what world you'd consider a Fiat Tipo as an like-for-like rival to a 3 series, but anyway.

Seeing quite a few of these around.

Don’t think you have them in UK.

For my sins I sit down with the missus and watch Married at First Sight Australia and they're using these to ferry the contestants(?) to various things. Genuinely thought it was just a Hyundai that we didn't get in the UK. Now I know better.

If you lived in Turkey, you would know about them...the best selling car there for 7 years running, under the "Egea" name. They sold more per year in Turkey, than they did in the whole of Europe.

Best selling car in Serbia too, think they are a pretty big seller across Europe, especially in regions where badge is less of an issue as a low budget.

I really like that too; it's got a sort of mini-Pantera vibe to it.
