Yes indeed, I have a soft spot for them as my dad used to have a MK1 Escort 1.3 estate.

What's the 'what the f...' for? That interior is what modern EV interiors look like now.

More likely based on the P100 pick-up as that had a chassis IIRC.

This is an S-reg, P100 was a lot later in the UK.

These camper van things were essentially kit cars with own chassis and body using Cortina bits rather being a GRP body stuck on a cut-down Cortina.

There was actually a Cortina III based pick up made for the South African market that pre-dated the IV based P100 that we know and love in the UK. You're right in that the P100 didn't arrive until '82 but the Cortina pick up was around since 1971

That camper - Clamshell bonnet, separate indicators, terrible fit and finish....it's a proper shed

OK, so not 'estates', or were they? Lancia Beta HPE, Volvo P1800ES and the Reliant Scimitar. Oh, and don't forget the XJS Eventer by Lynx. Bloomin' lovely, the lot of them.

Agree re 'sporting' 3 door estates. I would be tempted by one now, if such things still existed.

Did you lot not have the Vauxhall Chevette estate ? Nice car that was bigger inside than outside 8-) ,
last rear wheel drive so very tight turning radius, and everything self serviceable.

I assume that was because the 3dr estate was the original 'van with windows' like the current Berlingo etc.

Or did the 3dr estates have longer doors from the 3dr hatchbacks?

They were nearly all designed purely as estates, with the longer doors from the 2-door versions. Some had van versions with filled in rear panels.

I'd classify the Lancia Beta HPE, Volvo P1800ES, Scimitar and Eventer as shooting brakes, and the likes of the Kadett and Escort 3-door estates.

My neighbor used to have an Allegro 3-door estate.

Indeed, and as I can't shoe-horn this into "pictures of your fast estates" as it's lacking the "for the time" bit, Viva estate (well, Magnum estate) with some extra bits:
