Fun fact: the boot was big enough to easily hold a 44 gallon oil drum.

So I pull up at the lights and spot an old shape Nissan Micra out of the corner of my eye. But then take another look as something is off.

It has twin taillights and a badge saying March Bolero. Bit strange. Then setting off and look in the rear view mirror to see a totally different front too.

How cool

Looked it up online, Japanese import.

I know quoting myself is bad form, but I found a pic I took of P76 with an oil drum in the boot. No idea why they thought that was a selling point.

Given the propensity of British cars for leaking oil, maybe it was a necessity rather than a selling point?

Browsing Instagram the other day I saw a modern hot hatch I did not recognise, and some reverse image searching told me it was the latest Hyundai Veloster that isn't sold here.

The mk1 Veloster is an ugly blobby thing, but this one looks pretty good:

When you're travelling long distances with little in the way of fuel stops, handy to have lots of capacity in the back.

]I actually really like these, prefer them to a lot of the UK market hot hatches

There's a fascinating youtube video (maybe more than one, I can't remember) about a small company restoring one and getting it running right. It might even have been Giorgio Moroder's personal car, I can't remember (I watched it a while back) worth finding if you're interested in the engine, though.

Part of the reason we don't get it - the 2 doors would be on the wrong side for RHD.

It was just the Mini Clubman we got the door on the wrong side for. Other asymmetrical cars like the Veloster and Nissan Cube were done with LHD and RHD bodyshells.

RHD

LHD

Same with the mk2 with RHD as well as the LHD above. They just don't sell the mk2 here.

I really liked the look of the Veloster when it was sold in the UK, I’d have had one but I wasn’t driving yet.

The MK2 still looks good, and there’s an ‘N’ version, I’d consider one if it was sold here. I’m tempted to look at an i30n later this year, not doing as many miles now so might change from my sensible diesels

There's a documentary on the Cizeta V16T on the Motor Trend app at the moment, there's also a good one in the same series about the Vector W8. You can usually get a 2 week free trial of Motor Trend, some decent programmes on there

I was going to post the same, watched it a while back and it is incredible to see the engineering involved.

Ah, of course, Japan is RHD anyway.

I prefer the 4 doors of the i30N anyway although would prefer the Veloster to the fastback version.
