No mention of the Mondeo 2.5T?

Glorious 5 pot as shared with the Focus ST.

0-60 time in the low to mid 7s and while softer than ideal to properly press on handles very well indeed for a big FWD car....even while loaded to the gunnels with family and a full boot! rofl

It is amusingly quick, particularly on the motorway out of roadworks when you almost inevitably have a TDI of some sort glued to your bumper for having the temerity to stick to the limit.

Unlike the Focus ST it can actually tow as well (and is quicker than the Focus STd...and Golf GTD etc).

Not to mention that it is significantly better on fuel than the Legacy (and cheaper on tax too) etc.
I happened to see one just like that meeting it's end in a crusher only this morning!
Are you one of The Sopranos?

No Volvos?
That's what I was thinking; the new V60/90 T8 Hybrid is a rapid piece of kit.
Rapid? I thought all new Volvo’s were speed limited.
How much time do UK cars spend above 112mph in 2020?
True. However even my shopping car is capable of 146mph...so I'd feel a bit short changed at only 112mph.

Although in fairness I've driven both a 2019 XC60 and a 2019 XC90...and both their 2 litre engines were pretty rough and noisy even at steady speeds. So I can understand why Volvo have limited their engines to 112mph for sure.
Painful on the track day though, all the 150 mph hot hatches flying past wink

TX.
Yes, all of those Volvo SUVs are really hampered on track days. Volvo have really missed their target market. Fools.

So a top speed of 112mph would reduce your feeling of potency?

Or is it in case you need to 146mph to avoid terrorists, chase bad guys or avoid a meteorite strike on a shopping trip again?

Yep, a 1.6TDI estate is all I need. It’s faster than the latest Volvo’s too!

True. You'll be beating Volvo stage times and getting to your destination quicker in that

E500s with the 5.5 available in this budget.
There are about 12 of these in the UK and, unlike the coupes and saloons, they don't come up often.

Having said that, there's one extremely good one available right now.

For £2.5k I pick an early petrol B7 A4 2.0 quattro Avant. It's a downgraded B7 RS4 for a 10th of the price.

biggrin

Yes and of course I don't need it...but it is nice to know that it is there if I did(I've only been brave enough to go to 130mph in it anyway, and I wouldn't fancy a high speed crash in it to be fair).

Regarding Volvo...I'm not a big fan of being told what to do, so my back would be up straight away if a manufacturer was restricting how fast I could go for sure. I'm guessing that Volvos target audience wouldn't go anywhere near 112mph to be fair anyway. So it does make sense I reckon.

Phwoar. That is a beautiful car.

How's the torque steer?
Cheers, it's had a Q2 Diff fitted by AutoLusso so torque steer is fairly non-existent (At least I haven't noticed it in the limited time i've owned the car, I really wanted one with the Q2/Quaife fitted for this reason).

I drive my daily commute on the Autobahn at 200km/h indicated. So yes, my destination is reached sooner than in a new Volvo. I bet I use much less fuel too.

How many people in the UK would know/discover whether their car was limited to 112mph or not? Maybe many cars already are?

Of course, it would be annoying if somebody was to discover a limiter whilst trying to break the lap record at Snetterton in their diesel XC90.

I may have well exceeded this on private roads and mostly in Germany in the past, but in recent times it has been rare to exceed 100mph on private roads (it has become less acceptable and more severely punished on public roads in the UK).

Ah, so not in the UK and an indicated 200km/h is possibly not much different to 112mph.

What's fuel got to do, got to do with it?

Agree. thumbup

As a side note...can you imagine being on an autobahn thinking that your car can do 155mph, and then you butt the limiter at only 112mph...you'd be gutted!(well I would). biggrin

It's not in the same league as the RS6 but the same with the Mondeo. I'd be there with two bikes on the trailer taking it *really* easy round the roundabouts on a DC (because the bikes falling off would really mess up my day) and you'll typically get someone who will go round into the outside lane onto the DC...and then be left for dead....up to 60. smile

Same on the traffic lights, gentle take off to save mullering the clutch then floor it.

Utterly rinsed the average mpg and I should have been taking it easy given it made fk all different to the time it took but it amused me every time. rofl

I can only imagine how epic it would be to do the same in an RS6 (although given their reputation for borkage I'd personally be a little bit terrified it was going to break horribly).
