Haha I agree. It's almost like a photoshop of one of those chopped cars. I quite like it though, although it does have a whiff of old Vitara about it!

I like it. If I had the means, I'd have it, and use it daily.

Much as above - I know there’s a lot to like about these and they hold their value well, but it takes a bit of a joker to ask that price given the mileage and the year (surely this will be as badly rustproofed as any other 00 Mercedes?)
No - the watery paint cost cutting scandal was on regular production Mercs of that era.

Nothing to do with the G-Wagen which was hand-built in Graz, Austria at Magna Steyr Automobile Company.

£35K for that, wow. People are bonkers.
I think you'll find that cheap for a real 500.
The SWB is very rare and if you want one in true showroom spec without the bling wheels and with a normal mileage it'll be a 50 grand day out. This one for example:

I like these. Very good off-road. The styling isn't as "nice" as a Defender, but better in the mud, out of the box.

I'm not sure why some would compare it to a Macan. Totally different type of vehicle. One may as well add a Ford Transit comparison.

35k is double what I would spend on one, though. Not much need for a v8 if being used to tow or off-road.

Exactly. You can still spend £20k on a DIY tarted up 80s 230GE or 300 D 3dr with the ancient (well, not updated) interior. I've seen some with rattle can black repaint and AMG alloys but still has the check cloth seats...vendor wanted £18k!

At least this is a proper 500 with a slightly better interior.

Quite a nice gun bus. Perfectly capable of crossing the country and with a rather nice soundtrack and then ideal for getting muddy for the rest of the day. Only drawback is that I'm looking for a LWB. There seemed to be a nice one of those available a month or so back but I missed out on that on the grounds that I just couldn't be arsed to leave the house. biggrin

I really like that engine and it makes such a nice waffle noise. The supercharger is more than I need and the 350 is less than I’d like.

i see.

I only asked as I want to change my elderly but decent G300 petrol for something more modern.

Had a drive in a G63 the other week and it is completely insane. Just rested my foot on the go-pedal and it took off.

I think I'm going to be OK with the 350. It's only to take me and few chums fishing, Costco and garden centres.

Have had my 63 since March (2013) model - I absolutely adore the car and would not change it for anything else (including the new model). Does everything well imo (obviously it is not wafty comfortable, but none of my cars are, so I still find it very comfortable/more than enough for me). It gets to the speed limiter with amazing ease (using insane amounts of petrol though if you want to stay at those speeds for any period of time). Looking forward to putting the winter tyres on and then seeing what it can do on snow covered mountains. Possibly get some off-road tyres for next year

And on topic - I would love a SWB 500, but as pointed out good ones are rather expensive and 35k does not seem to pricey imo

Indeed built in Austria and possibly the only car I can buy that has a built in Austria plaque in it (actually a KTM probably would qualify, but that’s not really a full on car in by book)

And if you want something that looks really ridiculous, Mansory has you covered .... I suggest to sit down before clicking on the link (normal/ late model G500 Cabrios look to cost >200k btw)

Pretty sure the Aston Martin Rapide was built there, I doubt that it has a plaque, though smile

And if when driving that you're thinking, "what this ultra stable chassis really needs to exploit its sporting pretensions is around 890 bhp" then of course, Brabus has it covered....
