The numbers are pretty epic.
3.3 - 60! 625 BHP!
But there's another epic number!
120k!
As a lease deal, PCP maybe it makes sense, wonder what the monthlies would be?
One could argue that the price makes supercars look overpriced, no? Outperforms a V8 Vantage, even a DB11, yet more practical than both and cheaper. Are there many new cars as well appointed as this on the inside, as practical and as good in terms of performance which is cheaper? If not, doesn't seem so bad, does it? Or is it just because it looks basically the same as a normal 5 series? You could get a Panamera, which costs more still once up to the same spec. 3.3 - 60! 625 BHP!

I have a 19 reg as my daily drive. Its epic or docile, its up to you. It is though a 5 series so the interior is not the best (certainly is not as nice a place to be as my previous RRS) but that is far from a deal breaker as when I looked at the then competition 18 months ago it was the nicest of the lot (the new RS6 seems to be nice from the pics though). It also gets 22mpg in daily local driving and has seen low 30s on the motorway. Its a bit souless though and is probably best as a daily driver than something where you expect to get out of it with a huge grin on your face. I genuinely think it is too fast for the road for that. so much so I bought a 50 year old classic which barely gets to 80, drinks fuel at such a rate you can watch the dial drop and bangs and crashes on local roads. but it makes me feel happy and I think I am starting to understand that that is just so much more important than whether it does 0-60 in 4 secs or 3.8secs.

But... £118k. It sounds more if you say it out aloud. £118k for a (very) fast 5 series. As fantastic as it is, and for me it would be the choice over its peers, I’m not sure I could?

It's not £118k though is it. It a couple of grand over £100k, £118k is the cost of the unnecessary extras that BMW have chosen to fit to this press car. Just as every manufacturer does.

Totally agree with this it's a fantastic car but for me more a daily than something you want to take out on a Sunday morning. Just chosen X5MC as a daily as needed more carrying ability. Hopefully that will have a little of the M5's charm on that front!TyrannosauRoss Lex said:

I totally agree and I guess as a BMW fanboy (on my 4th?) I get a bit nervous when the brand new ones are hitting 6 figures. From what I've seen of the competition (well in my eyes anyway) they look like nicer places to be (Audi RS6 / Panemera to name two)
Plus (and I'm happy to be corrected here) both the Audi and the Porsche have stronger residuals.
I admire the power, engineering and performance and it is certainly a very desirable car. But....................
I don't really see the appeal in the UK. How much faster would this be on UK roads than say a 530d or a 540i? The running costs will be huge as will the depreciation (even with a large discount).
Lovely colour though.

Agree with all of this apart from the point on speed. They are very very fast and much faster than regular 5s (I have had a 530d and a M5).I don't really see the appeal in the UK. Unfortunately, they do depreciate a lot. If you buy a standard M5 at about 18 - 24 months old, you are laughing as you could probably pick one up for something in the fifties. That is a lot of car for the money!

Epically so... With a very muscular feel and still does the chill part very well...

In the real world ragging a golf diesel would probably see your actual journey times broadly similar. That's not really the point though. How much faster do they feel when you mash your foot down? A lot (although my comparison would be between the old 4.4 M6 vs. 640d) but there isn't much difference between those models and the ones you're comparing. I don't really see the appeal in the UK. If you take inflation into account when the E34 M5 was launched it was, without options, a little shy of £100k, this is £106k, and it has a LOT more standard equipment, of course. With the E34 days you could fairly easily increase the cost with a few necessary options so the prices aren't actually very different. Or does the idea of inflation still surprise you?But... £118k. My E34 540i was probably more expensive brand new than a base model M5. Options on mine include but are not limited to: Electric heated leather chairs, door cards and handbrake, armrests for aforementioned chairs, leather 'Sport II' steering wheel, High OBC, Automatic Climate Control, Cruise Control, Wood Trim, Servotronic PAS, Remote Central Locking, Electric Rear Window blind, Manual Rear door and quarter blinds, heated door mirrors, locks and washer jets.
For reference my Dad's old M5 was a 3.8 6 Speed, post-Nurburgring pack, pre-LE that had the floating discs, M Paras, full M-Tech kit including spoiler, full extended leather including door cards, grab handles, dash and centre console and EDC amongst bits I'm probably forgetting, but it had no blinds, no automatic climate control, no heated seats, no wood.
Can you imagine being able to order a new M5 with cloth seats and basic air con?
Of course, don't forget the E34 was handbuilt which certainly contributed to the cost.

Guess it’s personal preference, but I like the current BMW interiors; they still have those old fashioned things called buttons! I don’t like the new RS6 interior, although Audi's digital dash is nicer. From what I've seen of the competition (well in my eyes anyway) they look like nicer places to be (Audi RS6 / Panemera to name two)

Compared to the Panamera the M5 is a price performer. Too bad the next gen M3 has that large snout as I'd personally go for that with the 6 speed manual. It seems to echo the E39 M5 in size. I'll test drive when it comes available for sure. I owned an E39 M5 and am curious if the 2021 M3 is in any way a spiritual successor. I know the turbo changes everything but still hoping.
Love the idea of this, and I’d take great delight in screaming up and down outside Theta Gruntburgers yurt whilst creating my own hole in the ozone layer.
But the reality is, even where I live on the edge of The Peak District, o wouldn’t be able to use the speed and power most of the time. And I’m not a great enough driver to get it anywhere near 10/10’s or even 8/10’s
So I’d rather have this and stick £50k in the bank..
