Thanks for that. Yet to read all of it, but I am not sure where they're going with the lack of chrome badging on the 2.8i. Surely stickers were of their time, I am particularly thinking of the mid-70s Porsche 924. Even more expensive Porsches didn't have chrome badges.
It's an 80s car, not a 70s car. FFS, the four ring decals on the 1980? Quattro? The full length plastic stripe adorning the earlier Sunbeam Lotus.
Yeah, no worries. I’d agree with you thereIt's an 80s car, not a 70s car. FFS, the four ring decals on the 1980? Quattro? The full length plastic stripe adorning the earlier Sunbeam Lotus.
Decals were very much of the time for sporty stuff
RS Cosworth and RS500 both had decals plus, as you say, stuff like Porsches.

I have had 3 capris in my 32 year driving career. Wish I’d kept them all now. First was my nans G reg mk1 1300gt which she bought before I was born in 1969! By the time I got it in 1989 it was pretty rusty despite only done 60 odd thousand miles and garaged all it’s life. With hindsight, it should have been stored until I could afford to have it properly repaired.
Mid 90’s I had a blue x reg 2.8i which was half decent. My mate had a black one at the same time.
Mid 2000’s I got all nostalgic and bought a C reg 2.8i special which obviously had the 5 speed box and an LSD. What a hoot that was in the wet ;-) Sadly, not got a photo of that one for some reason. Wish I still had it. They were a great car with loads of personality.
Very similar to myself, my dad bought a 1968 MK 1600 GT-XLR in silver Fox in about 73, maybe 74, went with him to buy it and can still rmember it, mainly the owners Alsatian being a bit over friendly. It got repainted white with a black Vinyl roof in about 1980.Mid 90’s I had a blue x reg 2.8i which was half decent. My mate had a black one at the same time.

Anyway, that car was around from then until I learnt to drive and I had it as my first car.
It was Mot'd until 2008 according to the DVLA and had been fitted with a 3 litre engine, wonder if its still tucked in a barn somewhere waiting for a restoration. It survived so long as my dad used to fill ever cavity in grease and engine oil, rust still nibbled away at it though., If anyone has OJA 375G tucked away, let me know, would love to know if it still actually exists, if it got to 2008 with an MOT it may have.

Well, just happened to see one just now.
Done more than a thousand miles I suppose but didn’t look too bad for it’s age.
Wonder if we’ll be saying the same for the Ford next to it in 30 years.
Hmm, hardly a fair comparison, the equivalent when the Capri was out was the MK2 Fiesta and they have a following, well the XR2 does, Fords Capri Equivalent is a Mustang, which is sort of it coming full circle as the Capri was, a downsized Eurofied Mustang. Bit more expensive at 38 grand for 4 cyl, weird that the Ecoboost is considered as the weedy one, and its twice the power of the 2.8i Capri which was regarded as a bit of a beast in its day, 150 bhp vs 317.

150 bhp
160 bhp. I had a set of 280 15" wheels on my injection turbo, the P7 tyres that were standard, were a lot better than the usual Goodyears.cerb4.5lee said:
It always used to annoy me that my 2.9 XR4X4 was only 150bhp...whereas the 2.8 Capri had 160bhp. I felt short changed!
For some reason Ford always quoted 160bhp for the Capri and 150 for everything else with that engine. I think it was supposed to be related to the exhaust installation (I did like having a tail-pipe each side, especially on a cold morning). But my mate's XR4i felt every bit as quick as my Capri!

The Sierra was a bit slippier through the air and had different gearing thanks to the rear axle ratio etc
One of the things I remember a friend doing with his 2.8 that really livened it up was swapping the rear cwp for a 3.77 when he was having the LSD spruced up

Yep, that’s right - the twin system on the Capri was supposed to release an extra 10bhp over the single exit system like on the XR4i

My Capris were both 4 speed models and in good conditions they tended to hit the limiter. The 5 speed Capris were really more 4 + overdrive, whereas the XR4is were proper 5 speed boxes. The Sierra was a bit slippier through the air and had different gearing thanks to the rear axle ratio etc
As much of a Capri fan as I am if I was buying now I think I'd rather have an XR4i. Just need to hope my mate doesn't read this as he has one for sale.
