Here's one of the FB ads.

Even has a contact number on his profile. Terrible shame if that was scribbled inside a few hundred public conveniences with a few choice words like Twink, Switch or Suck.

The government/police will claim that there is already rules and legislation to control this, i.e. regards scrapyards/dismantlers etc. They obviously have to request I.D. and an address for anyone selling them anything,

Of course, I have been to a scrapyard many times, even used to do a weekly scrap run at an old company to get some cash for the kitty, and the scrapyards are naturally incredibly dilligent in making sure they follow these rules to prevent this crime.

"Name, address and number mate?"

"John Smith. 1, main street, townsville. 071234567890"

"Cash or account"

"Cash please"

"Ok thank you come again John Smith. Please note top prices currently paid for Japanese Catalytic converters, Volkswagen or Audi R and S model bumpers, lights and seats. In case you find any lying around."

It is rife, and it is everywhere.

In their minds, they already have (all the restrictions on scrap metal dealers) but the issue is those acting as middle men to buy up stolen ones, then acting as legit suppliers into the scrap metal trade - virtually impossible to prove the items are stolen, unless some serious police time involved to investigate thoroughly (which takes time and resource they don't have)
I see, thanks.

Several Prius in the parking area outside my house (not mine - I don't have one) got done the other night. Just the Prius (they are quite popular around here)

This has been a problem at my gym carpark..of all the places you would think is a higher risk. I drive an old focus so no idea if they are on thieves target list but I tend to try parking closer to the reception so there is some visibility. It's not the potential cost that worries me it's the hassle getting it sorted or getting another car in a worse case scenario.
Unfortunately there will always be a market for this type of thing.

We don’t know this person deals in stolen cats so it’s not really right to encourage that behaviour imo.

Yes, I'm sure he's the one bloke in the whole UK whose possession of used catalytic converters is legit laugh
