Anyone heard any more about this?

I can't find anything anywhere and the SSC website still has the news report of the record on their site but with some clarification from Dewetron.

They had another go on the 12th and 13th. They had technical issues. Still nowhere near 330mph.

I thought they'd never do it, I went as far as calling them scam artists but credit where credit is due I am pleased that they tried and they were completely transparent about the 2nd attempt (even if they needed Robert to tell them to be transparent). It sounds like it has all the right pieces to go for a record attempt. I look forward to attempt #3.

Sounds like even if they didn't experience mechanical issues that they would have run out of run way.

Absolutely bizarre, surely this is them proving without doubt that they faked the previous attempt?

Absolutely, the way I see it they had a expectation of the true performance of the car.

They knew the car they had ready couldn't meet the speed expected, possibly the gearbox with ratios needed wasn't available yet?

So they applied a correction factor so it could appear to make the correct figure.

They believed that the final car could meet those figures so nobody would find out

Exactly this.
I appreciate this was on a shorter runway, but it wasn't exactly smashing it way up to 280, and another 50mph is a whole other level with even infinite space

Don't they have to do it in two directions? One direction alone doesn't constitute a world record.

They did, watch the video.

The driver does let off very early but I don't think they would have found an extra 40+mph in that amount of time.

And what's the betting that they now quietly let this slip in to history.

People will see the new "record" and think oh, they did do it... and move on.

With covid though, they are not going to be having another go anytime soon, so all we can do is wait and see.

Am I being a bit thick? I thought the WR was held by Bugatti at over 300mph?

The Bugatti 304.77mph record was not a production car, as the production Chiron Super Sport 300+ according to Bugatti, is only "technically and visually inspired by the record-breaking vehicle",

Can't help but feel people would have been more impressed at SSC just doing a this 286.1mph record legitimately out of the gate, it's all been tainted but the lack of clarity and speculation of dishonesty now,

The Bugatti was only one way.

But back to their claim of 286.1, that was the fastest of the 2 directions, the other way it did 279.7, so if they have got the record, then it is the mean of those 2 so 282.9.

So at the very least their headline figure is misleading.

Why not just do thee things right, and then there are no doubts and no one can dispute your claim.

I watched it. They're quoting fastest run, not the average of two runs.

TLDR

Assuming it's a 'production car' record

Does anyone actually own one?

At least this one isn't fake, but it is still below what they said the car did before, will they try another run with different gearing maybe to see if it can go any faster and above 300mph?

Apparently the driver does, this is his car
