Drivers with defective lights and on their last bulb anyone?
That seems to happen as often.

Well I also cycle, drive and also ride a motorbike. Just because someone might have a different opinion to you it doesn't automatically mean they are trolling smile
Those sad bds who dress up like Valentino Vinales and pretend they’re trying to get into Q2.

Am I doing this right?

Could someone from the angry side explain the issue with lycra? It seems to inspire so much anger. Bright colours seem to attract even more rage, as if being visible was somehow more offensive.

It's funny, the ones who complain about lyrca are also the ones who complain about being "held up" - do they realise that if we don't wear lycra, we'll be going even slower? The difference between cycling in normal clothes and proper fitted cycling attire is massive.
To Wiggo, maybe. Does it make that much difference to a 16 stone IT assistant manager?
Yes, probably it does. You would choose to run a 10k in your business suit?
Exactly, it's not just cyclists that look silly in lycra. Yes, it's easier to commit to serious sport wearing lycra...but most serious sport doesn't take place as cars and lorries thunder past so I imagine some of the scorn towards overdressed cyclists is also based on the enviromental dichotomy.

I don't really give a monkey`s what cyclists wear, and I have seen some pretty good cycling outfits, but walking into a pub dripping with sweat, looking like a condom packed with walnuts is not as good a look ,as some cyclists seem to think it issmile

So have we established what is allowable cycling wise? rofl
I think so. Pretty much "anything you damned well please, within the law".

The hypocrisy on this thread is staggering at times. Muppets telling us they are "OK with the genuine ones who commute" but no those riding for fun, sport, or training. Yet these are the self same people "going out for a drive" or taking the car on 'non essential journeys'. It's OK for them to clog up roads and parking spaces with a car "because they just felt like it". But not OK for someone to exercise their right to use the Highway for any reason they feel like on a bicycle.

All the while these frothy-mouthed imbeciles are overlooking the obvious. Unlike cars, I'm certainly NEVER held up behind a queue of 30 bicycles at a red traffic light. But I'm regularly left fuming when I fail to get through a set of traffic lights on the next green phase, simply because some ahole in a car is too busy fumbling with Facebook, or chatting to their passenger, to notice the light has changed. A cyclist distracted by their phone will be sat at the kerb with one foot on the pavement, or will even pull their bike up onto the pavement out of the way, not holding anyone up.

I was held up on the M27 last night on my drive home from a ride up near Stockbridge. Loads of idiots who have no idea how to drive properly in the wet or dark, which meant everyone was pinned to about 55 mph. Morons swapping lanes, then finding the new lane wasn't going any faster, so switching back again. The whole way down to Ringwood was stressful just watching how stupid some drivers are. Yet there wasn't a single bicycle to be seen, other than on a roof rack. And it's half term, so you can bet a significant number of those journeys (just like mine wink ) were non essential trips for leisure purposes. But this, apparently, is OK. Yet bike owners cycling for pleasure? "No sir. Not on your nelly. Ban them. Ban them at once, I say..." rolleyes

I sometimes wonder if they get equally upset about people doing other sports in specialist sportswear - expect people to ski in the coat they wear to work?
Don't get me started on those skiers - they're all parasites, dressed up in those stupid padded coats and sunglasses and bellowing at each other while slowing me down in my illegal snow plough.

Do they even pay road tax?

riding a bike to a shop 1mile away once a month doesn't mean you cycle.
Quoting this in case you re-read and decide to delete.

What makes you a 'proper' cyclist then?

I ride a bike for commuting.

I ride a bike to socialise

I ride a bike for fitness to train for races

I ride a bike for fun

So I’m confused about whether I should be out on my bike riding or not according to a lot of people on here!?

Sounds like a few angry people on here could do with getting out on a bike to chill out and enjoy life for a change! biggrin

What amuses me though is there are a lot of vitriolic opinions from people into cars, even though some of the biggest petrol heads in the country are into cycles and cycling. Harry Meadon. Guy Martin. Jenson Button. Sir Chris Hoy. Valtteri Bottas. Etc etc
I guess you have to check with the selection of self-regarding idiots on this thread as to whether they, as drivers, consider your use of the road acceptable.

Despite the fact that just about every single cyclist I know is either also into cars or motorbikes and pays as least as much to drive as said self-regarding idiots.
I've told this story before, but we had some knobhead giving it the full "pay some fking road tax....get a car" as my mate and I pedalled into town.

We got to the traffic lights and he was still going at it, so my mate fished his keys out of his pocket and held them under the old buggers nose

"How much fking road tax do you think I pay on that" - as he held the keys to his Granturismo MC Shift in front of matey's face.

He'd have wafted the keys to his 360, except they don't have his house key on.
RIP the cringe thread.
I couldn’t help noticing that I’m considerably richer than yoouu!
Well, given the stream of invective, doubts about parentage, reference to female genitalia and general abuse spewed at my mate for having the temerity to ride a bicycle, on a road, I'd say it was a fair cop.

I’d be quite surprised to see any bikes, other on a roof rack, on the M27.

Yeah, the guy is out doing something, not sat sniping.

Someone took his photo specifically as he is big and is wearing Lycra, which to me is weirder and more unpleasant than a fat bloke going for a ride and enjoying himself, I suspect, somehow that he is aware he is overweight and doesnt need reminding.

I am always bemused by folk who feel the need to point out physical characteristics, walked with a girl who was six feet four and people used to say "Woo, arent you tall", well thank you for pointing that out, without your help I would have never been aware that my height is well above average for an adult female.

Like people who shout stuff from moving cars or pedestrians or cyclists for no reason, even my dog doesnt do that any more. I was cycling and saw a larger lady going up a hill locally, she was obviously struggling and nearly at the top, as I went past I just said "Well done, its a killer that one isn't it", hopefully she took it in the spirit it was intended and didn't feel it was condescending but by god she put her heart and soul into it.

If you cant say anything good,

Which was exactly my point. Hypocrisy regarding whining about "being held up" for thirty seconds at a time by bicycle riders on non-motorway roads, while accepting being "caught in traffic" on a motorway where there are no cyclists.

Beyond that, I'm stumped. I can explain it to you, but I'm afraid I can't understand it for you...
