If they released this photo on 1st April, it would be too obvious that it was a joke..
History will look back at the start of full touch screens in cars, and laugh. I'm laughing now.
that is such horrible, lazy design. imagine being someone who designs proper interiors being told you know have to design it for a massive screen that's replacing the center consoleHistory will look back at the start of full touch screens in cars, and laugh. I'm laughing now.

In Europe, it would be the older gentleman looking for serene luxury who buys an S500. That same gentleman might not like using this digital technology.History will look back at the start of full touch screens in cars, and laugh. I'm laughing now.
I showed this to my wife and she's answered the conundrum. This car is aimed at younger generation in China (and maybe Middle East). The millionaires in China buy Ferrari/McLaren in the late 20's early 30's. By late 30's, they calm down and start buying stuff like this S500, luxury SUVs or Bentleys.
They're still young and into tech so this would appeal to them.

It's a big no from me. But then again, I don't have £90k, so my opinion matter little.
Not in the same league I know, but when we sat inside a 2017 GLC I couldn't believe how plasticy it all looked, and felt! It was utter tack. The Mazda CX5 interior was far superior.

The centre console has the dials which mirrors the air con dials on my Mercedes. But on a screen, you would have to keep your eyes on the screen to adjust the controls. With a tactile functioning dial, you hold it while keeping your eyes on the road then turn into, feeling the clicks.
Haptic feedback on the touchscreen is just as good, and it wouldn't surprise me if all these "basic" functions are duplicated on the instrument binnacle at the touch of a button. The above notwithstanding, the interior seems a little vulgar; it's just missing the spooky waving cat and a gaudy pricelist.
Re: interior.
Isnt this just Mercedes releasing a trendy interior in the PR Shots as they want to attract new customers? The existing customers will be returning as normal and will order their dark interiors.
And the LED colour will be switchable to any colour, dimmable and even turned off.
These are just trendy PR Shots. In black leather and dark trim it will be the usual bread and butter.
Only the large touchscreen may be marmite, but Mercedes have always gone with the tablet stuck on dash crudely look for last few years now, and buyers appear to be happy with it.

Out of interest, what would you do if you were designing a car interior? It looks perfectly functional to me, and if you don't like the colours etc you can spec it differently....I love my Merc interior, much more interesting place to be than an Audi or BMW borefest!Krikkit said:

Straight-6, but yes.And to those hating the blue lights, it's configurable to any colour (well, I believe it's around 10-bit levels, so 1024 shades)
I think it's a handsome thing for a modern, I'll take mine in green please:
It actually seems quite cheap - the petrol is £87k, then there's almost no options except the "premium pack" at £6500. Add that and you get all the bells and whistles, there's literally nothing else.
