It’s an ‘89 car and that’s not happened yet, thanks for the warning. It’s had a set of valve stems, but I’m pretty sure the heads have not been off.

While it was ~26k short of the 200k my old Mondeo was on the original clutch and the last 80k was spent mostly commuting which was ~28Mi each way of which probably about 22Mi or so was Motorway/A-road as well as towing (two bike trailer). It was slightly above average mileage/year (~14k) and ~80% of that would have been motorway. I've zero doubt if I hadn't sold it at 174k that it would have made it to 200k+.
we had a 2006 1.2 Skoda Fabia from new, was p/exed last year on 280k kms, so around 170k miles at 13 years old, had been used and abused in those years, was still on original clutch and engine was still running pretty much the same as when new. I did try and do regular oil changes, but I'm pretty certain that at one point it when 40k kms between a couple of the changes and most of the others were late!
It was pretty much used every day, no short journeys though, minimum was probably 15 miles each time, so was always warmed up.
I would say that most, if not all, petrol engines will all easily do 200k with regular oil changes, it will be something else on the car that fails and makes it an uneconomical repair.

My 2005 2.7 987 has 105k, no reason to see why it can't easily do double that. The only problem is that I will be drawing my pension and unable to get in it as it is lowered, when it gets anywhere near that!I've never really seen a high miles boxster. I've not read the whole thread, but I assume PopPopBangBang has been mentioned? His 911 has moonship miles, north of 400k IIRC.

So the currently total, just a hair over 220k miles

They always say that the engines in these seem to perform & pull better with more miles on them, so more miles is usually a bonus rather than a hindrance, provided it's been looked after.

200,000 miles on a 30year old Golf GTi isn't exactly high mileage though, that's only about 7000 miles a year.
The main reason cars don't reach really high mileages is that they don't do enough miles before they become too expensive to MoT or a rust riddled deathtrap. And most cars bought to do high mileages are diesel anyway.

Have to say, this thread is making me feel much better about my Mk3 2.0 Petrol Mondeo, with a mere 91,000 miles on the clock!
Just had new air and oil filters, and fully synth oil. And new sparks within the last 1500 miles. Hopefully will serve me well for many years to come.
Very impressed with the high mileage Boxster. And as for the Bentley, what an excellent way to accumulate the miles.

Great to see Dad's old car again and that it is being looked after.
I plan to keep my 2001 BMW 530i Sport tourer until it has done 200,000 miles, now on 193000 but has always liked a drop of oil ( 750 mils to a litre now)since I bought it on 75000 16 years ago. New alternator recently, radiator a few years ago and auto transmission oil cooler 4 years ago. Still runs sweetly.
