How do you feel now that the dealers are reportedly selling 5 a day and all the reviews are praising the car.
Trying to get someone to openly admit they had bugger all idea what they were talking about ...on the internet?...good luck. ITP said:
Looks fun, but I’m not sure at 32-33k.
Civic type R GT seems a to be more car around that price, I think.

wonderful choice to have. or have both.
Have a test drive (unaccompanied ~30 mins) on Tuesday. Used Google maps to track down some suitable roads not too far away from the dealer. Shall report back.
However...
1. I don't need a third car
2. I also don't need a second car, yet reality begs to differ
3. It's just a test drive (famous last words)

I was in exactly the same position as you a week ago with regard to your 3 "howevers".However...

However - following the 30 minute unaccompanied test drive, I ordered a black one with the circuit pack

Take up feels huge on these... i know of one person buying, who has never previously even thought about hot hatches before ,and two others close to ordering. Plus obvious high interest from this thread.
I am desperately trying to get the man maths to work, but don't want to sell an old car, or a project car, and daily is just tooo cheap to run to chuck in now. I will find an angle I can get approved by the wife somehow though i am sure
The deserve every success coming to them. How many new cars the past few years havent just been faster/heavier/more complex version of the previous model, and been properly interesting? I can think of two - the Alpine A110, and this . Got the former signed off for November 2021 - just need to find an angle to justify this next to it..!!
Ahhh the guilt, had a suprise present waiting for me in the garage, left on top of the Honda - order from for the GR, delivery date May 18th! Said wife is a star - heard me banging on about them too much, so ordered one. Flat white with circuit pack, of course. Shared my thoughts on the test drive earlier in the thread, i was very impressed - still ultimately prefer the A110, but they are also even used considerably more expensive, and those 0% APR deals are very good. Figure run it as a daily for a year or so, and then move to the Alpine.... or, maybe just end up loving it too much and using the rear seats more than I usually do. The Alpine isn't going away - so will save a bit of money and get one in maybe 2022/ late 2021.
And the residuals - is what it is, Toyota aren't Porsche - they can and should make as many as they decide to make. Demand will still be there, so it won't be an expensive car to run when everything is factored in, but no new car can be expected to generate overs (albeit there may be a short 3-4 month window now when these do), nor be expected to avoid depreciation.

You could possibly have the best wife on Pistonheads.I booked a test drive in the GR back in October, the dealer (Westover Bournemouth) was getting their demo car early December. Got a call early November to say the demo was delayed and delivery dates were already May/June 21 so I ordered a White Circuit Pack as I was 99% even before having a go or watching the hundreds of positive YouTube clips since late November.
Had a test drive mid December in pouring rain awesome car in those conditions can't wait to get more than 1/2hr in my own car around May/June time. My question is this I normally have a Mk7 Golf for the week and 996 Carrera 2 for weekends can the Yaris now replace both?

Every single review has been positive, with some reviewers saying it’s the most special car they’ve experienced in the last 20 years. An enquiry today confirmed that the UK’s 2021 allocation is sold out. Placing a refundable deposit of £1,500 gets you in the queue for delivery in Q2 ... 2022!
Test drove the Yaris gr and loved it. Like the fact it’s a manual. Grip is superb. Not without its fault, visibility, rear mirror, MMI screen from fisher price and in wrong place, price, zero sound. But the positives far outweigh the negatives.
Issue is I have 4 cars lol. 2 old, 2 fairly new. Means I’ll have 5 cars lol. Probably give the son an old car when he can drive.
Anyway, the s3 will beat it in a drag, the rs3 saloon will annihilate it in a drag and most roads, even a lot of country roads. However, the Yaris comes into its own on narrow twisty roads. I love the fact it’s a manual, an auto would ruin it. Will likely track it too but only occasionally and just for fun not to race.
Will be ordering tomorrow or Friday, in pearlescent white.

Good choice of colour but if you see the price as a downside, why did you go for the most expensive paint option?
Out of interest, what price do you think Toyota should be selling them for in the UK?
The last car I bought nearly new was a Clio Trophy in 2006 (by the time I got my act together they had sold out so I bought one with a few hundred miles on it). They retailed for £15,500, which was regarded as a massive performance bargain at the time.
This is just under £24,000 adjusted for inflation to 2021.
The Celica GT-Four ST205 (£29,235 in 1994) would be £61,000 today!
It’s hard to keep up with inflation but I think for what it offers, and the time and effort that went in to its development, the GR Yaris is an absolute steal.

800 for paint is quite normal, similar to Audi prices unless you go exclusive where they’ll charge you a ridiculous £2400...for bloody paint!Out of interest, what price do you think Toyota should be selling them for in the UK?

This is the predicament I find myself in. All 4 cars are totally different to each other, YET I still feel there's room for something as unique as a GR Yaris. I'm going to sit on my hands for 18/24 months and see how the game plays out.....Issue is I have 4 cars lol. 2 old, 2 fairly new. Means I’ll have 5 cars lol. Got a CTR (2021) and I am disappointed with the build quality: plenty of rattles coming from different places (central console, A pillars, tweeters, etc... etc...). The Yaris GR is built in the Lexus factory (so expect Lexus build quality). Personally I prefer better build quality over bells and whistles.

1. Don’t need another car
2. Maybe I can make the case for an electric shopping trolley to travel into London, or a more family car
3. Who in their right mind buys a new car?
So logically I ordered a red circuit pack. Test drive was useless but despite that, the sprightliness of the engine was surprising. It feels like a car that can be enjoyed without going too silly.
And as a so called petrolhead, I felt I should pay my dues to a company that tries and get one (especially at 0% PCP - I order today and pay the last half of it in 3 years...). 12 months to go now.

It's obviously true as one rag says it is
Let's be honest, nobody knows for sure at his stage & i'm sure all will become clear over the next couple of years.
Toyota UK & globally, along with their dealers & all the press reports i've seen have quoted that Global production is limited to 25k cars & that includes the 'lite' models in the range for Japan.
Now, either CarThrottle are wrong & everyone else is right, or everyone else is wrong & CarThrottle are right.
I'm sure someone in Toyota has the correct answer, but unless they're stupid, they'll stick with their current plan.
Anyone who buys one based on it 100% being a limited production run probably needs to have a word with themselves as we've heard this tale before from MANY marques & then many disgruntled owners/buyers who feel let down.
One thing is for sure, this is clearly a very desirable car & it appears Toyota have nailed it on with this model. I've never seen such a positive press outpouring from EVERY journo in my 35yrs of car ownership, so it's safe to say buying one (like i have) is gonna be a great purchase if you're buying it for what it is.
Now August 2021 and you can't even order a GR anymore, but be put on a waiting list. Could it be that all GRs are now 'sold out'? Anyone who has put down a deposit and order will get a car in 2021/2022, and the people on the waiting list will be offered the cancellations. And that's that? Let's be honest, nobody knows for sure at his stage & i'm sure all will become clear over the next couple of years.

The bulk of the 25,000 cars will be the 1.5 litre RS / Lite version for the JDM. Sources (I can't find the link now!) claim 6,000 GRs coming to UK/Europe. UK got 750 in 2020, and 1,000 in 2021. Assume another 1,000 in 2022 and then that's it. Toyota won't continue to build them as they are definitely losing money on each GR produced that is heavily hand made and takes 10x longer than a standard Yaris. They also need to shift production to the GR Corolla.
