Best smoker barges 1-5 large [Vol 18]

Lots of love for that. I prefer the interior of the 1996 facelift cars with the coupe style seats and coloured carpets, but the Honda V6 is a much better bet. The seller has said it has a "buy it now" of £1,500 which seems very good if it checks out and isn't rusty/shagged.If anyone does look make sure it shifts properly, the auto is a continuous mesh rather than epicylcic box and people put Dex 3 in them rather than the proper Hondamatic fluid and it kills them.

Erm so, I've done a thing since my last post. Somewhat unbecoming of me, a little impulsive. This afternoon was interesting, I got wind of a leggy mileage but otherwise solid non rusty E46 330ci Manual (5 speed) 20 minutes away.
Erm, you can guess the rest. Collecting Saturday.
...
So in true thread fashion I've purchased something that's not on my list, not really a barge and over my budget (although two thirds of thread or thereabouts, probably more expensive than I could have gotten one especially with the miles, but it's condition warrants the outlay)
The details:
330ci Sport Manual
Electric seats (non heated)
Xenons
Everything works
Manual (5 speed)
Recent new vanos seals, brake lines, tyres are good and matching, service history was presented to me on a forklift, so we'll looked after. From Harrogate for ten years so I guess being miles away from salty air explains why it's not rusty.
So yeah, I've had one before. Exactly the same really. Loved it. But mine was cheap and nasty and I hadn't given much thought to them again. Did I mention this is a non rusty example? How long that will last I don't know. Seller was a lovely genuine chap, same age as me and just had too many cars. MOT history is good, wear and tear stuff really. 163k, not really worried about that. Ultimately probably cheaper to run than an E38 or another old Mercedes over 150 miles a week.
So yeah, erm... please can I stay in the thread
Congrats, well done on finding a non rusty example. Sounds like it has been well looked after.Erm, you can guess the rest. Collecting Saturday.

For me, manual is best on these. Not sure when they introduced the 6 speed manual...

I hear you. I checked all the arches and sills as much as possible. Looked very clean compared to my old 330ci, and never mentioned on MOT's. Up until 2019 this one lived mid country so hasn't seen much salty air. I intend to keep a close eye on it though.
That 3.0 straight 6 is, in my opinion, BMW's very best engine.I am looking to trade my Z4 2.5 for a mintier 3.0.
I do think the later N52 (in the E9X etc) is another step up. If you can find an N52 Z4 (= 3.0Si model), worth holding out for imo.

Someone should 'Alan Partridge' it and use it for a Banger Rally around Europe. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

What a tea shelf.Proper worthers.
A flask of weak tea with two little plastic cups and a couple of ham rolls is how it's done.

That's really.......Actually, it's really quite nice. The 800 is a good looking car. Especially in coupe form.

Me, yesterday, “that Lexus is awful”.
Me, today, “ooh, this IS200 which is totes chav is awesome”.
Perhaps it’s in the execution...

I'd raise an eyebrow at that one because of the engine modifications, especially when the best version of that chassis are available from Japan for below thread max - goo-net, and if you are happy with some repaired/auto's then you can probably get under thread including all import costs. 2003 I believe. My old man had one of the first ones. It came with the face-lift I believe. Edited by g3org3y on Monday 8th February 13:38

I’ve been researching e36 M3 - there is something special about the straight-6 burble
My pal had an E36 M3 Evolution; 3.2 rather than 3.0, twin rather than single vanos, increased redline and 6-spd rather than 5. 321bhp rather than the standard M3’s 280odd (from memory); no traction control. The engine absolutely sings from a low, gruff burble to through a sort of metallic stirring in the mid range to a full on yowl, the Revs come faster and faster as you head up the range.TommoAE86 said:

Not that I'd buy either, and ignoring that goo.net sounds like something not to look at on a work computer, it is interesting that people looking at your link also liked this bundle of cute.

In related news, many years ago as a young man, I had one of these in 827 SLi flavour (1993, auto, saloon, BRG, grey velour). I liked it a lot. People are sniffy about Honda-era Rovers, but this was one of the better "collaboration cars", in my opinion.
I also had a similar-era Honda Legend V6 (not at the same time as the Rover, but close enough to compare), and I preferred the Rover.
I really like this, overpriced but it is nice!
Whats the reliability like on these, anything scary to be aware of?

My Audi knowledge isn't as good as others' on this thread, though I have had experience of the A8 2.8 V6. For a start, it's not a fast car. Slower than an E38 728i, which was never a rocketship itself.Whats the reliability like on these, anything scary to be aware of?

Also, I can't see any evidence of this car being a quattro, which I think means it might have the MultiTragic auto 'box.
It's a handsome car, for sure, but it's not the right spec, and the money's ambitiously strong.
Gosh this thread moves fast, I hadn’t been on for a day or two and there is a new thread of 9 pages!
Good buying guide on the Range Rover L322...
If I may add my own point:
Gearboxes on the older cars (5 speed) are a weak spot on the 3.0d cars and check for fluid changes on all of them.
Mine has some rust on the rear arch (door shut) that I didn’t appreciate on viewing in the dark sadly. I am toying with selling it as I have a few other cars and could with performing a suspension refresh on my 996, but I love driving it and feeling of well-being it gives....(also its great in the snow).
