Well done that man. Definitely within the ethos of this thread. On the subject of the first drive home. My first and only born traveled home in a MK1 Vauxhall Carlton. Doesn't seem to have done him any harm, though.
ETA. I have since shown him pictures of that car and he said he would love to run one himself with a set of banded 17s on.. He says, it has "retro chic". The youth of today!

Actually for cruising around and having less to worry about a six cylinder car makes a lot more sense in particular not having ABC is a bonus (that said ABC is absolutely fantastic unless / until it goes wrong.)
I wouldn't want an S-Class or SL without ABC, it's that good. IMHO even if it costs you a grand or two over ownership to keep it working then it's still worth it, I am yet to stop marvelling at how a 2.2 ton limo corners completely flat, doesn't pitch or squat under braking or acceleration, and yet has superb ride quality at all times. I'd really like to try a later car with crosswind stabilisation and the "Magic Body Control" system that uses a camera to read the road ahead. This E39 T in Imola is a bit of me -

Some tasteless oaf may appreciate this W8 VAG estate under thread max -

And despite my instinctive aversion to everything VAG, has anyone any experience of these?

Petrol, naturally, sensible mileage, longer term ownership and MOT history respectable to say the least.

Fingers crossed LTA, my second was born in LD.2 so I understand your situation but it all worked out well nonetheless.
Thank you, thank you. Hope everything goes well anyway, fingers crossed for you.

Curious, the bonnet, doors and rear hatch don't appear to fit?https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-Passat-Estate-W8-4...
God luck LTA, life will never be the same again.
Our boy came home in an Alpine B10V8 (at 10mph, natch). In my fuddled state I remember holding it in gear to give him an introduction to the pleasure of a V8 soundtrack whilst dreaming about the future automotive passion we would inevitably share. He's now nine and couldn't honestly give a flying st about anything whatsoever to do with cars.

Thank you, thank you. All the best LTA, I'm sure it'll go fine. My twins were born at 32 weeks, came home in a V70 at about 37 weeks... still far too small for their car seats.
Commiserations 21CM, that's a stter.
Oh and cheers for the update on the speckled one R129SL/darling

I'm very much my fathers son. Our boy came home in an Alpine B10V8 (at 10mph, natch). I was brought up with car ownership being 5+, sometimes 7 or 8 at any one time.
Sundays were for farting about with the fleet.
I currently have 2 motorbikes, the S211 and an Accord Type R. Least I've owned for a good few years.
But, I've just 'won' this on eBay -

plastic trim to prevent bashing on the edges of the doors make them seem off, looks like the front bumper has dropped a little though, probably why its got even more stick on protection on the front corners.no rust dents or corrosion - except in front of the osr door which has clearly had a whack at some point and the sills look odd like they've had paint removed or, oh and the dent on the lower drivers door, the scrape on the front bumper.

Congratulations to all those with new arrivals, be that barge or baby human.
Due to a heavy snowfall and being kicked out of the maternity ward at 3am due to a burst water pipe, my first born came home 10 years ago in my old problematic Mk1 Freelander 1.8 which thankfully that night was awesome. The only challenge was fitting the baby seat - I'd assumed I would be using my Mk5 Golf GTi and had not tried it in the Freelander. After 15 mins of tired, progressively more panicked fumbling at -5 degrees C, worried that he was going to freeze to death, I managed to get the belt to stretch that extra few mms and get it secured. Make sure the baby seat fits every car in your fleet!
The next day it refused to start for 2 garages over 3 month - it was like it had done its duty, saved the and then given up with exhaustion.

Indirectly yes. They are a bit like an L322 Range Rover in terms of reliability. At that age they suffer from similar gremlins. The difference being is there is probably a decent indie Land Rover specialist quite close to you to fix an L322. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Touareg-3-2-Grey-Air...

That looks like value to me. A rare and very desirable spec being a 530iT Sport in Imola. Best wishes to you and the Mrs and the new little person. Couple of great thread purchases too.

Well my friends, I'm rather upset.
Narrow country lane, Hilux towing a trailer with an excavator on it was coming the other way, I stopped and was about to back up, but he tried to squeeze through anyway, and failed. He dragged his trailer along the full length of my car at walking pace.
Just catching up here and first thing I see is this, what a terrible thing to happen I feel your pain! If you're in Hampshire then I recommend Mike Pritchard for body repairs - did an amazing job on the Skyline. And the best thing is, despite not being your fault, your insurance will still go up. 21st Century Man said:
Many thanks for all the commiserations.
I was progressing the claim through my insurer, but the third party's insurers have contacted me and are taking responsibility, my choice of bodyshop. I've closed off the claim through my insurer.
Somebody pinch me, it's not supposed to be this straightforward right? Famous last words!
