Out of interest, recent good news (previously detailed in the thread) means that I’ll be schlepping from Lancs to just outside Brizzle to commute to a new job before we relocate later this year.
I had considered a 630i/SL350 as the ideal car for the job, but is there anything else I’m missing?
Priority is threadish budget, coupe/cab preferred - otherwise an estate of some sort, easy application of Bluetooth music, heated seats and known problems that are easy to fix, so no coolant pipes for instance on BMW v8’s.
Usual thread priorities of ruinously expensive when new, waftability, space for two people’s luggage for a road trip around La Belle France and a gentlemanly number of cylinders (<6).

However they do have balance shaft issues, though someone of ample beardage will advise better.
Sucking from the green pump, coupled with the interior colour, definitely makes it more interesting.
Sadly, I'd be doing a disservice to beard wearers everywhere to even call my Mercedes Beard stubble, can anyone suitably hirsute confirm?

Century paint update. My preferred body shop (Chartwells Derby) graciously declined to quote, they didn't fancy the job. I decided to take it around to my backstreet man, as it happens he had an E type in that they'd painted three years ago and so I gave it a good looking over and I thought it was pretty good. They also had an AM V8 Volante in for paint, a pre production car and the very first one built. So, reassured they were up to it, my man is doing the job, I should've just gone there in the first place!

One of the lads on the 5 series forums was selling his blue E34 520i a good few years back & I was seriously considering it. It was c£1.5k, looked really well, well looked after and no corrosion at all...
It'd have been an easy driver, never a speed machine, but would get you everywhere in comfort and style
Was a very relaxing car to drive. Not quick but definitely relaxing. Bought for £500ish, sold a year later for £200.

Well deduced Mr Bond. I think you're right and if an NI car then it should have the paper certs. Only the past few years have they included an advisory section and TBH most inspectors leave it blank unless it's really necessary to include it. As for NI reg numbers they aren't easy to date as they are just issued in sequence. For example AAZ would be followed BAZ numbers from 1-9999 but in reality 1000-9999 as the lower numbers would make the reg shorter and more valuable so they get sold off in reg sales by DVLA.
You can easily get a plate with your initials like AIG is my mates. BIG or CIG would suit him better as he's a fat smoker
He once bought a new Merc and refused it as the reg was FIG which he thought was too close to FAG so he rejected the car until they changed the reg to something boring. The hilarity of it is he's a gay hairdresser married to a man
He also didn't want the bunch of flowers that came in the boot and instead told them to swap it for a bottle of Smirnoff. I think they did
DIG is a popular reg with builders and a guy paid big money for BIG 1.
