As far as Insurance goes, I just had my auto-renewal reminder today - so this is before shopping around:
That’s with a (bad) OL postcode on the M62 corridor, 10k business miles (SDP+C as well), all mods (SL wheels declared).
M6 on a separate policy, £500 for that with same level of cover.
20 years ago (eek!) I paid £950 for a Supra - a then fast car with it’s 230hp - 3mph faster flat out if you dropped the pop-up headlights down, which made v-max runs at night somewhat gripping, to say the least.

Guys does anyone have a Mercedes r129 Designo brochure from 1999?
Just discovered (after ten years of ownership) that my car came with a two tone black/yellow interior!

I ended up with an excess insurance protection policy, so you effectively insure your excess, then you can ramp your excess that up to a grand.
Interesting, does that cover you for hire car excess too?If you don't mind me asking, who did you get your policy with?
Thanks.
https://www.theaa.com/car-insurance/excess-protect...
If that link doesn't work, it isn't allowed just type in "AA excess insurance".
Although I did that several years ago, so I'm sure there's better options now.
I don't know about hire car excess but I used to hire a few cars abroad every year and so got a policy for that, so you didn't get ripped off signing up to the damage waiver policies.
Obviously a committed threadist doesn't have to hire a car at home, as usually one of their sheds should be working (hopefully).

Sub thread for this shabby, but lovely early Aero estate

That guy could give that car to me and not notice the difference in his account balance! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/saab-9-5-aero-2-3-turbo...
Honestly, that looks like it would be a great buy under a grand. Seems like back-of-the-sofa money for what appears an affluent part of London.
I’m a sad individual and would see the worth in buying that just to clean it thoroughly!

^ barge t-shirt.
I had my MOT the other day for the 728i, a second consecutive pass with no advisories! I do feel they may have taken pity on me though for the amount of times I’d brought it in.. also, it’s reassuring to know that gearboxes rev a bit higher when cold, mine’s done it since day one but warms up quickly and shifts perfectly thereafter. The kickdown also takes a few seconds, but it really jolts forward with more enthusiasm than a 193bhp engine has any right too!

If only!
I've just insured my S-Type for £500, and my old Golf shed is £380. If I hadn't discovered a really good guy at Keith Michaels, for both, this is still less than I was paying for an X-Type diesel.
Insurance kills me. I'm 31, good postcode and 9 years NCD!
Jesus. I'm 36 and paying £185 for a supercharged Jaguar XKR 4.0! The quote for the 4.2 S-Type, with full business use etc., is £234!I've just insured my S-Type for £500, and my old Golf shed is £380. The S-Type V8 quote was for 15k miles per year and includes business use. As an aside, was quoted a pound more for an X350 3.0 with the same insurer.
Maybe they just have me down as an old fart? Which would, in many ways, be true!
I do have a couple of non-faulters from a few years ago, but even when I remove these from the inputs the prices rarely change.
I am, incidentally, a young old fart. I even live on a retirement development, where my dirty old man's Jag fits in nicely.
My prices above are for 10k miles on the Jag, and 7k on the Golf. Both SDP+C+B1.

Either I have been busy, or you all have; more than forty pages to wade through since I last looked in.
LTA;- so sorry to read of your E39 woes, I look forward to reading what you did / plan to do. My money would be on a good used box from a reliable specialist breaker.
Entertained by the high speed runs of some, it has to be done, even in a barge. I have discovered that my recently acquired slightly modified (and de limited?) Jag will redline in fifth gear, but slows down if I allow it to drop into sixth: insufficient power to overcome drag at the lower rpm? Or does the limiter only work in top gear? Anyway, I am still very pleased with it, especially as nothing has broken, yet.
Back to page 330 for me.

My car had that BRIGHT yellow leather (Yellowstone). So bold they didn't even put a pic of it in the brochure. I've yet to find a pic of an r129 in this spec, though I did find an SLK in the same combination.
I kind of like it even more now that it could be a one of one spec. Mrs Kul isn't so keen....

I'd have given a kidney for choices available like that during my recent research. When did consumers become so fking dull? Exterior colours were silver, black or white...and variations thereof.
I went Carbon black (looks black but has a dark blue undertone) with brown seats. Which was about exciting as you could get.
I now own a silver and black Mercedes.... oh and a burgundy one, but that's as much rust as bodywork these days (because S210).
