As this is clearly a long Friday as we're discussing cars over thread, and I know thread likes brown cars, feast your eyes on this 40* thread ferrari. Brown. With, err. Well. More ballsy than... Well.

I'm on the search for an old classic Merc. Just wondering if any owners can give me a few tips on what to look out for. Seen this one advertised which looks good for the money.

I might just add that I encouraged this chap to post here as there is a lot of MB knowledge in general, and 107 ninja-skillz in particular on the Barge thread. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1331733
As r129sl has said, rust in the bulkhead is the killer. Just about everything else is fixable, but check the rust first. And then check it again before parting with your 16 grand.

It started fine but we found the handbrake very hard to release, something up with ratchet mechanism. The gearbox, LT77 out of a Land Rover, is pretty hellish and I couldn't readily find reverse. We took it out for a run. Hmm. Hard work. 40mph feels like a death wish. The brakes are unservo'd and the pedals are floor hinged and very tall. Rumbling along a deserted byway there was a sudden graunching sound and it tried to pitch me into the ditch. I coasted to a halt and took a good look. Engine fine. Clutch seems fine. Put it into first, let the clutch in, and it makes an awful noise and stalls. Same in every other gear. Under the bonnet there is oil dripping from the bell housing and I notice the exhaust is hanging off. I thought perhaps the exhaust was fouling the prop shaft but it wasn't. My fear is the gearbox has somehow lunched itself. You can engage the gears but you cannot put any drive through the box. It towed just fine in neutral, so the diff must be OK. Maybe this means the clutch is bad?
The car was built by this well-known specialist DJB Engineering about whom I can find no information whatsoever. My first plan is just to send it back to them to have them finish the job. But I may send it to a trusted specialist in Newcastle with the same remit. It just needs to be right so that the owner can take the pleasure in it that he deserves
Never heard of the company but you might want to ponder why a specialist would choose to use an LR box when the tried and tested route to replace the Moss gearbox with a 5 speed is a Borg Warner T5. If only the cloth would've been a bit more brown, just like the old Porsche Pascha interiors, it would've been perfect http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2021020386...
Ok one more over thread to close the weekend, a 2 x thread QP with the ZF box although the reg number is unrecognised by the MOT on line checker....

What a day you've had Arrrrr.
My detailer is a nice chap and when I went to see him recently in order to collect my newly re-trimmed, leather-fed, protected and wood (lacquer) -polished steering wheel, we were chatting about the red RS6 in his garage which he casually mentioned was his... he then proceeds to tell me that he keeps it at a friend's pad along with his yellow 575M with the Fiorano pack! He says that he might bring it to the Bicester Scramble in June, perhaps the 575M might tempt you to come along also, despite the threat of having to wear a mask outdoors?

Has anyone had a ~2005 Lexus RX400h? I'm tempted to try and SUV barge for 1-5 and this seems a good place to start? I don't want to pay over £350 in tax and it must be petrol and have ISOFIX.
I have a 2007 RX 400h, so may be able to help? I think a couple of other posters here have had one too.Has anyone had a ~2005 Lexus RX400h? I'm tempted to try and SUV barge for 1-5 and this seems a good place to start? I don't want to pay over £350 in tax and it must be petrol and have ISOFIX.
There's also a couple of Facebook groups that cater for the RX, the 400h probably being the most frequently discussed.

Talking of detailers, I expect this will split the crowd, obviously an enthusiast owner. I think it's great.

If your detailer has an RS6 and a 575, I'd suggest you're paying far too much for your detailing...My detailer is a nice chap and when I went to see him recently in order to collect my newly re-trimmed, leather-fed, protected and wood (lacquer) -polished steering wheel, we were chatting about the red RS6 in his garage which he casually mentioned was his... he then proceeds to tell me that he keeps it at a friend's pad along with his yellow 575M with the Fiorano pack!
