Barge snobbery in a thread with a max. budget of £5k
Very happy with my LS400 purchase and thanks for the comments
Well spotted Gruber, it is indeed from ACA classic car sale,
Checked the power steering pump for leaks, all good there, thanks for the top tip MTH223
Had a chance to have a look round it yesterday, very pleased to find it's in pretty good all round condition for a 23yr old car
Bonus find were the new Toyo Proxy CF2's front tyres, rears are a mix and match and well past their best.
Biggest job is the cam belt, replaced only 13k miles ago but this was done nearly 10yrs ago, I'll get this done, along with a full service, gearbox, brake, PAS and cooling fluid change just for piece of mind
Need to find a good specialist garage within a reasonable drive from North Oxfordshire, any recommendations?
Lots of little jobs to do to make it really tidy, Bought a new rear light to replace the cracked one for a grand total of £17.90 Pleased to find 2nd hand spares are plentyful and very cheap.
Plan is to waft about locally in a County Lines type of way, then once travel restrictions are lifted explore Europe and beyond
Congrats on buying the king of barges. <runs>.Very happy with my LS400 purchase and thanks for the comments

I've mentioned it before, but it's worth trying your Lexus main dealer for a quote on cam belt change on an LS400, for some reason their tariff for the job seems to be stuck in the late 90's.
My local dealer is excellent. I was in for service/Hybrid check on Monday and despite being a scruffy bottom feeder, always get treated like I've just ordered an LFA. They will send you home in a 21 plate Lexus for a tiny charge, or serve you an excellent coffee while you wait with your fellow (retired) clients (not a screen in sight: one doing the crossword, one reading a novel, the other having a nice nap. It was 10.30am).
A comprehensive walk around video of the underneath of the car appears in your inbox with a list of recommendations, but not even a hint of obligation: just take a card sir and just ring us if you would prefer us to carry out the works. They add add some Dad spec boiled sweeties with sherbety stuff in a tin, placed in the cup holder, (that demographic thing again) and send you on your way. I suppose we have to be grateful to the Yanks for something.

I might be alone but I’ll be happy when this desire to post Friday wk material subsides - something quite insalubrious about it all
You're not alone, I don't object to it particularly but I thought we'd moved on from Earls Court in the seventies? It just seems a bit page 3.Sterillium said:

Tbf, that was his MO anyway. I once parked up at a BDC event in my MKVI, he parked alongside in his Continental S, I gave him a cheery Derbyshire dialect "Ayup" and was (correctly) instantly judged as on the same level as a council estate flat roofed publican in an old Shadow and completely snubbed. Unlike Lord Strathcarron who sat me on the running board of his R type drophead and gave me tea from his flask. Is this worth a look for the money? It's local and the MOT history doesn't look too bad.

Not overly fussed about the Friday content personally, although middle aged men way past ladykilling age (surely none of us are below 40?) fawning over young skirt and then discussing heart issues and beige old saloon cars on the same internet page may come across as a bit cringe to a thread outsider.
Saying that, the lass on the Morris Minor is fit as.

Maybe just me having a downer on the S-type in general, but that still feels within a shout of being overpriced - it's a soggy old Jag from their worst styling period, badly photographed and badly parked!https://www.gumtree.com/p/jaguar/jaguar-s-type-3.0...
That said, on a nice day having been washed it's probably a decent purchase for a smidge over thread minimum.

This thread is like a forum all on its own. Middle-aged perverts with a love of cheap, old beige barges. The heart issue content is my fault - I apologise.Saying that, the lass on the Morris Minor is fit as.
We all have our own level of cringe causing perversion. I mean, what sick bd thinks a diesel Vauxhall should be considered in this thread?
Personally, I like the classy lady driving a classy car pics - a bit like the sentiment of WWII bomber pin-ups - but leather clad bint with her tits out while polishing a Porsche bonnet with her moist lady bits is something for the specialist websites, so I scroll by while cringing, only looking to confirm how distasteful and inappropriate they are while tutting...

Did someone mention these recently? Take the badge off and you have the ultimate rocketship Q-car.
Are they any good - is the mileage a worry? Do these rust the same as all other 2000ish Mercs?
For the money it's a tempting risk and localish.
