Classic alloy wheel designs
Discussion
Yeah, I'm bored. Lockdown huh?
Anyway, inspired by the thread about over engineered cars I got thinking about wheels (no idea why).
Nowdays there are literally dozens of different designs for each model of new car to 'personalise' it (yes MINI, you especially), but if you look back even to fairly recent history there are certain designs where that WAS the choice. Anything changed after that was, in reality, pretty bad taste...
Therefore ladies and gents I have come up with a selection of some rather iconic wheel designs. Feel free to add your favourites...
1. Alfa 155 Speedline 5 spoke. Just suited that angular car so so well
2. OZ Milano wheel. A HUGELY expensive 'upgrade' on other Alfas but standard on the Sz/RZ, just stunning.
3. compomotive. Just screams rally car
4. Azev A. Clean, stylish, pure. No fannying about. Classy (at the time)
5. Alpina's 'go to' style. Not a fan of them but they have become synnonomous with the brand.
6. Pug 205/309 GTi wheels.
7. Merc SLR 'Turbine'. Rather liked these when the SLR was introduced. Now copied by many.
8. Porsche Turbo 'twist'. Sadly now seen on VW camper vans, chavved up Golfs etc
9. If it's fitted as standard to one of the best cars ever made then say no more
10. A true true classic.
11. Escort Cosworth. Probably more replica sets around than there are Escorts (not just Cosworths!)
12. I'll finish off with these....
Over to you.
(Anyone that posts any picture of 1) TSW Blades c. 1995 2) those god awful teddy bear alloys or 3) any three spoke wheel will be hunted down and executed in front of their nearest and deares )
Edited to add....the ONLY 3 spoke that's allowed....
