My contenders.....

Also huge fan of m3csl but someone else also proposed those
And love bbs split rims
Love the 205gti alloys - were they bbs?

And the
Which were known as ‘scoopies’ to us as BMW claimed they scooped air on to the discs to cool them.

So many good bmw wheel designs at the turn of the century - so few now frown

I absolutely hate Fuchs of all description - just do not get them at all... Give me the ‘cup’ alloys all day long
Ditto Minilites

Also think some wheels look great on certain cars but just do not work on others - and dont know why.......

First real mainstream 20" options on anything other than custom cars lile . Was at JLR at the time and they massively under called demand for these, i think they were expected to be 20-30% option take and were 60%+, they put the price up twice and didn't slow it, ended up with a massive waiting list due to BBS supply issues and had to add 2 more designs in the first year to cope with demand

I always preferred the Montreal but both lovely

Loved the Detroit - until now thought the Montreal were dodgy aftermarket

It must be just me, but I’ve never liked these wheels. They’re ok on a classic Mini but look out of place on anything else IMO.
I would respectfully disagree.

I don't know whether these are technically Minilites, but they're an option on a Singer 911. I think I prefer them to the Fuchs wheels.

Rays Engineering forged alloys on the Nissan 350Z with the ubiquitous set of 3 squares found all over the 350. Does anybody know the origin of the 3 squares and how many sets are on a 350.

I see Ronal Turbos are being used on a few different modern classics at the moment. Had them on my MK1 over 4 years now can't find a more suited set of wheels

What about these? Are they a 'classic' wheel? They're certainly unique:

What in the name of David Cameron's giddy tosswank allowed those to happen?

I think you would be disappointed if you were expecting "alloy" wheels but got steel ones.

Not famous - but really nice wheels, and quite minimal for OEM in 2006

Loving this thread! Alloy wheel design has always been a thing for me. At 18 I purchased a cheap set of wheels to enhance the looks of my first car - a Morris Marina 1.3 Coupe! I know it was a hard task but unbeknown to me I bought a set of J A Pearce Magnas which were gorgeous. Sadly I let them go with the car when I sold it. They are very valuable now - certainly worth more than the car!

The Dolomite Sprint wheels also attracted me to buy one - shame about the cylinder head gasket!

My current mini fleet contains several designs I really like. The star design on my Z3M and the Fuchs on my SC both feature deep dish designs on the rear which clearly is a look I go for.

Z

In terms of daily cars I have BMW 403M wheels on my F30 and Roulettes on my mini which are both lovely designs albeit I’m very unimpressed with the way the 403s have corroded!

Back in the early 80s the Custom scene was still going strong and the wheels to put on your Cortina 1600E (and a lot of other things) were these;

So I did. The local Custom Shop sold me them, one a month, for £100 pound each. I couldn’t afford them all at once. hehe

JA Pearce alloys are available again, but they're not cheap. I couple of years ago I priced up a bespoke set for a Mini and they wanted £2,500 for a set of four wink
