Sounds like this is the ultimate usable, real-world performance car.
Really isn't. Give me an M340i xDrive every day of the week. Probably still be there at the end of it, too - unlike the Golf.

I've never seen an answer to this, partly because I suspect there isn't one. I'm sure not many FK8 Honda Civics have been stolen, but I also can't remember ever having seen one.
A45s, RS3s etc all seem to be lower down the list, it's "peer" is the S3 with which it shares just about everything. Don't know what the stats are like for that.
The question was if it was proportionally more likely to be stolen. Of course the RS3 is lower down the list, there is a fraction of the amount on the roads.

Is there any data on the likelihood of a Golf R being stolen?

Reading this thread makes it sound like it's a massive liability. Or a people saying they are more likely to be stolen than other cars but the likelihood is still extremely low ? In other words a bit of context would be useful.

Yet back in 2015, it was my next-door neighbour's house that was broken into overnight for the keys to his M135i, while my 5-door 7R DSG sat untouched on the next driveway.

It all depends what the scumbags have got on their wishlist that night.

As an A35 owner I have to agree here!

Exactly what I said. Is it because there are loads of them that loads get stolen?

Or is my risk of having my car stolen proportionately higher than if I owned an A35/M135i/Focus RS/ whatever?

Why not review the current Premium Plus A35 that has the adaptive dampers as standard?
Is the Premium Plus package at £6000 the only way to get adaptive dampers on an A35?

I dare say any valuable, powerful car could be a target, and it seems the more practical the better for the criminals as they can easily get their gunmen in the back! Hence why I don't hear much about lotus and porches being stolen I guess?

I did hear someone say that 3 door cars are less likely to be stolen for that reason.

Mine was never stolen in the two-and-a-half years I had it. Insurers evidently weren't that worried either; it was about £400/yr iirc.

Lovely, but not worth a bash on the head from a gang of Eastern Europeans.

Yes, clearly Churchill are insane for insuring mine for £245 ish, what with its record of being stolen every time I go anywhere.

I've found the same, Matt / macky17. I haven't had my mk7.5 estate for long but I can't get on with the steering. I had a Leon Cupra ST 300 before that and the steering was decent, so I expected the same from the Golf. Maybe it's the standard Continentals? scratchchin
My MK7.5 estate came on Bridgestones. They were terrible, and unfortunately lasted ages. Changed them to PS4s 6 months ago and there was a marked improvement. Turn in is far crisper.
I too swapped the Bridgestone tyres for ps4s and although it had slightly better precision the oversll feel of the steering remained inconsistent. I'd be forever entering a corner and finding I had wound on too much/not enough lock and having to adjust - often more than once. Played with camber, toe, pressures everything and nothing worked. Drove me nuts. Just surprises me when reviews never mention it as I'm sure there was nothing wrong with my car. The ctr I replaced it with was such a breath of fresh air.

I suspect the actuaries and underwriters at the insurers need to frequent PH rather than rely on data.

so based on sample size of 1, no chance of being stolen. great stuff.

I'd guess the numbers on the roads probably mean you hear about them more than others.

I can't comment specifically on the Golf R but my own experience since buying my S5 tells me there are certainly cars that represent a higher risk. Never had an issue with the M2, E63 and Boxster that preceded it, but since the S5 I've had one break in that I disturbed and 2 incidents where my cameras (installed after the 1st one) woke me up as lads were on the drive or round the side of the house. Police told me that the sporty Golf's, S/RS Audi's and the AMG hatches are popular targets where I live in East Mids. Other incidents that I know of in my area involved a Golf GTI and a TCR, and an RS4 estate. It's completely put me off my intended RS5 upgrade and I never thought I'd let what others do influence what I want.

After the 3rd incident around 4-5 months ago I started using one of the yellow steering wheel locks, touch wood I haven't had any problems since then. But if it happens again then the car is going dog is getting swapped for one that doesn't hide under the bed rolleyes

I have a pre-LCI F20 M135i and I'd say the Mk8 Golf is way worse in the ugliness department, the F20 is a bit doe-eyed, but the front end of the Mk8 looks like it's just had a big old hit of smack and it's feeling like it's time to nod off...
I think he’s talking the new M135i (F40) shape.

Having just ordered a M135i I’d be biased and say I prefer the M135i, also interior is better and has ‘proper knobs’!
A price of £300pm on a 3+35 lease makes it a winner on value as well.
This is why I have an F40 M135.

I cancelled the A35 because the interior was just pants compared to the BMW . (Saggy seats one year in )

Audi S3

Too much shiny scratch magnet Black and 'Pimp my Ride' quilted leather

Golf GTI

Much the same but they raided the SEAT parts bin .

Its a personal thing ... I like to have a gear selector to go back and forward with biggrin TBH I spend most of my time behind the wheel not in front of it, so that matters to me.

Agreed the Bimer is not the sort of car you park up for your weekly shop and look back with admiration .

But Hey... the interior is streets ahead of the opposition IMO

Cars from 2020 onwards, yes. Before that they were a separate option.

Is that how insurance premiums are calculated? Makes sense!
