Have another read of what I said and you will see that I do get it!
The fact they are marketing it as Defender means nothing to me. It is not and will never be a Defender in my eyes (and probably a great many others too).

In the same way this will never be a "proper" Dodge Charger. Regardless of the fact that Dodge slapped the Charger name on it in the 80s.

I'm not saying the Pretender is a bad vehicle - it isn't.

But that doesn't make it a Defender either. smile

It is a Defender, it's just that you don't like them using that name.

No, I’m not saying having manually operated diff locks is 100% better than what LR is offering currently for most drivers under extreme off road conditions. But, at least there’ll be a choice for people to might prefer to use diff locks to traction controls. If diff locks are that useless, why not getting rid off them all then. Just look what happened to the early Disco 2s.
I’m just not clear what ability is added by the driver deciding when the diffs need locking, rather than the car. And why does traction control need to be separated from locking the diffs? That’s surely the bonus of the Terrain Response approach.
No, traction control doesn't need to be seperated from diff locks. That isn't what I mean... I simply wish the new Defender would have a front diff lock as an option just like on the base model the rear diff lock is an option.

And what would even be better is instead of going through the touch screen, there could be three simple diff lock buttons on the dash for driver to operate when needed.

It's just like those modern supercars have different selections of drive modes. We all know the fastest drive mode for 99.99% of the owners isn't the "everything off mode". But, at least you can select everything off as you wish. It's a choice for people to choose as they wish.

I tend to agree, if you are actually off roading (something probably less relevant to this V8 model due to price point). If you get yourself in bother, being able to quickly activate the difflocks can save you from getting stuck. You can't always anticipate this and if you have the Terrain Response in the wrong mode or just auto, then it won't get it right either. Stopping to change modes will get you stuck, but keeping momentum going and activating diff locks can be a real saver.

Not sure you could find a more direct one (or are you suggesting the G Class has a special dispensation from the hi-viz warriors because it has the underpinnings of an old pickup?).

Which one is going to be better for air dropping? The 90 or the 110?

I would. The G has a very different appeal and is a different level IMO.

Not really as there’s about £60k difference, and I’d still take the G.

Saving grace is that it probably still gets the same MPG as their entry level - No idea how they got such poor MPG from a modern engine, even if it is carrying a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a block of flats.

Yes yes, I realise if you're spending £100k on a defender you don't care for MPG, the same way you also don't care for getting the best vehicle for your money.

A new Defender parked next to my Octavia t'other day. It was maahoosive. Up close it really is a big old lump, a term my dear wife applies to my good self from time to time.

I was surprised just how big these things are - makes an RR sport look like a Suzuki Jimny.

For 100k, it'd be an Alpina B5 estate in the dark green with some discreet gold coachlines, with tan leather seats and a 520d badge on the back, though the 4 exhausts might give the game away a bit!

70 k for my svx to be converted with a Overfinch v8 , brakes suspension etc, if I had the money I would go that route.
However, mine is old fashioned !

Are you sure you were comparing to an actual RRS? According to wikipedia the D90 is smaller than the RRS in every dimension other than height and the D110 is approx' 6" longer than the RRS.
