VW certainly getting its moneys worth out of the EA888! I think they missed an opportunity not popping the 2.5 5cyl in this, its not really any different to the T roc other than slightly bigger and no doubt slower.

Would presumably cannibalise RSQ3 / RSQ3 sportback if they did.

Isn’t this based on the same platform as the Q3 hence the comparisons with X3 M40i are a bit off and makes it seem very underpowered when compared with the BMW.
It is a good £6k cheaper though in base trim and so probably better compared to the identically priced X2 M35i. Be interesting to see a group test between the two at some point for those that want a fast mummy wagon.

It's on an enlarged version of the MQB Golf/A3 platform, but having driven all 3 I'd say it's at least as roomy inside as a Q5 or an X3. And actually more refined for road noise than the X3.

(But yes, it's limited to a 2 litre 4 cylinder lump, unlike the X3)

For two adults plus two kids I can not think of a more convenient and practical outdoor vehicle. Looks very cool.

I like it but with Golf Rs a target for car jackings / thefts (one of my poor neighbours had hers jacked in front of her house), it puts me off getting one of these and putting my family in the firing line.

I like this and I have always liked this generation of Tiguan. It's subtle, not over-styled and although the interior is bland and lacking in any 'wow' or 'this is a nice place to be' it suits the car. If it had massive touchscreens you'd be kicking it hard in the nuts.

Compare interiors...the Mustang Mach-E sits at the same £46K price point, offers AWD is probably the EV version of the Tiguan. Which interior do you prefer? I am really not sure why the Mach-E has such a vastly oversized screen...the in-car version of home cinema? Maybe in this eco vegan sharing is caring world you'd like the occupants in the car behind to watch the same screen as you?

Just imagine the annoyance of getting a dead pixel right in the middle of that screen!
Not as annoying as if it gets broken or just doesn't work one day!

Shorter than most estates though, so less clutter. In fact they are shorter than a current Civic Type R.

As opposed to an indoor vehicle?

I don’t see how this offers anything for a family over an estate.

Estates are good too but I find that the SUV form factor allows some limited but useful off road access, sometimes parking in the Surrey Hills for instance is helped by the added clearance. I prefer the higher driving position, better visibility, longer suspension travel and shorter format compared to an estate. The next family might prefer an estate though, plenty of choice out there.

For older and shorter drivers easier access in handout of car. Better all round vision. Better resale. Just better.

Looks OK although I think the wheels are way too big. 18" should be more than enough and give a better ride.

I would also question the costs. I know that VAG will make far larger margins on this model than a basic Tiguan but in the real world a 150 diesel model will suit the vast majority of people interested in a family SUV. Good to have the choice though.
The 150 diesels are a bit lethargic in something this size and weight, though.

My wife has no interest in cars, or going fast - but still felt her Q3 (150 diesel) was gutless enough to warrant trading for a 45TFSI which at 227bhp just feels better suited and less exasperated all the time.
Wife has a 150 diesel Tiguan - it's a late mk1 but has the same 150 engine as the mk2. I drive it quite a bit, including when we (used to) go over the M62 up to relatives in the NE, and I'd say it's absolutely fine. It's not going to do fast A road overtakes if the other driver wants to be awkward, but 'gutless' is a bit harsh. Her's is DSG though, so I suppose in a manual you could get caught in the wrong gear and the limited rev range would mean a lot of gear-changing.

The wheels on newer ones irk me too - ours came with 17" although the model got changed to 18" as standard just after. We also have a set of 16" winter wheels and tyres which a VW dealer was selling for £250.
