I think there’s a little explanation missing here, as quattro GmbH (now known as Audi Sport GmbH) is a subsidiary of Audi, building cars with different VIN nomenclature at a location Neckarsulm, which is a good distance away from Ingolstadt.

As such, the first five quattro GmbH cars aren’t actually included in the list above, namely RS2, C4 S6 Plus (with a 4.2 V8 replacement), B5 RS4, C5 RS6 and B7 A4 DTM limited edition. The first included one in this article, the TT Quattro Sport, is actually a good bit down the list chronologically

As for a sub-section under say £5k, the only car I think that would slip under might be the B7 DTM

Some of those featured in the list aren’t even quattro GmbH cars as far as I know, like the S1. Arguable even if the original Sport Quattro is

Surprised that the RS2 didn't find it's way onto the list, but apart from that some great cars.

Love my RS3, does everything I need it to do and is set up perfectly. It's a pre-facelift 8V so has the iron block engine which sounds incredible stock, but mine has secondary decats, a tune and a thicker rear anti roll bar, so is very fast, sounds amazing and drives a good deal better than stock.

Must mean MK2 as the MK3 wasn't available with a manual box, shame..

I came within a gnat's gnatty bits of buying an RS3 saloon. White with black pack. Looked the absolute business. The only thing that stopped me was that I felt like I could not get into a comfortable position in the driver's seat. Felt like I was sitting too high. I knew it would end up annoying me, so had to admit to myself it was probably not the best way to spend (at the time) £50k+.

Always had an eye for the R8 but I have to wonder if (in Mk1 terms) it's not better to spend a bit extra on the V10 version....? Thoughts from anyone who has one welcomed!

The Sport Quattro is a lottery win top 3 for me. There may be none on PH but there's one here for €550,000

And this guy has 3! The second red one looks like it has had an ABT makeover to push 400bhp

early V8 R8, B7 RS4 and C7 RS6 my favourite Audis of the past 30 years. The RS6 really is an astonishing piece of kit.

Bit of a misleading title. None of them are truly a “sports car”. They’re mostly hot hatches and performance saloons.

I suppose the R8 is arguably a sports car. The remainder, not so much.

No you're mis-reading the title.

It's Audi Sport cars, not Audi Sportscars.

How far up the scale of 'Audis that get stolen' is the R8?

- Obviously not practical as a vehicle being used by a gang.
- Not exactly subtle

However I assume alot of the performance parts are similar for RS4 / 6 Models? - so desirable for breaking.

Just wondered if they were as high up the scale as some of the very hot hatch VW / Audi range.

I know there is much debate about what makes a sports car, but there isn't much dissent that transverse front engined puddings with the engine all hanging in front of the axle are a very poor starting point for "sports car".

Plenty of fast hatches and saloons in this list for the straight line heroes among us, but as far as I can see the only thing that qualifies is the R8? Even the TT is no more a sportscar than a Capri ever was.

As above, re-read the article title. Audi Sport cars - not Audi sports cars. Audi Sport the 'brand'. wink

The title is Audi Sport cars, as in cars produced by Audi Sport. Not Audi sports cars.

My V8 R8 living on the street in London was not much more to insure than my previous £10k 3 series.

I was quite surprised to find they are only £100 more to insure than an F-type - but what did concern me was the increased possibility of a couple of guys with a hammer arriving at night and asking for the keys (as happened to a lad with an S3 not too many postcodes away)
